Like many of us are equally guilty, she let dogma get in the way. No excuses. This nation of cowboys and the philosophically cowardly just couldn’t handle the little Irish woman with the voice five times her size—not even that 20th century “cultural icon,” Madonna Ciccone—and Sinéad (or her management) just didn’t factor in the consequences. She was a pop singer, not a politician. Bulldozers in Times Square, indeed.
