Sylvia Rivera, born on July 2 in 1951, was a Latina American queer rights activist, member of the Gay Liberation Front, and community worker from the state of New York.

Rivera, who identified as a “half-sister”, participated in demonstrations with the Gay Liberation Front. With her close friend Marsha P. Johnson, Rivera co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), a socialist group dedicated to helping homeless young drag queens, gay youth, and trans women.

At different times in her life, Rivera battled substance abuse and lived on the streets, largely in the gay homeless community at the Christopher Street docks. Her experiences made her more focused on advocacy for those who, in her view, mainstream society and the assimilationist factions of the LGBT community were leaving behind.

Rivera died during the dawn hours of February 19th, 2002, at St. Vincent’s Hospital, of complications from liver cancer. Activist Riki Wilchins said this of her: “In many ways, Sylvia was the Rosa Parks of the modern transgender movement, a term that was not even coined until two decades after Stonewall”.

I spent awhile learning Japanese and I think my political awakening has led me to the conclusion that Japanese people are as brainwashed and as stupid as anyone else in the west. It’s kind of disappointing. Not looking for criticism here, i know everything about this post is stupid

I’ve come to similar conclusions, they’re a pretty brainwashed society. I’ve also concluded they had no time to politically develop from being a feudal society straight to fascistic imperialism and landing on neoliberal capitalism. They were doomed for centuries.Their 1960s left wing movements were pretty cool though.

Its a fucking shame and it seems like the Japanese dont understand the extent to the cucking the US did to them after the war. It makes you feel hopeless

Remembering the Kanji by James Heisig is the gold standard in the online spaces I’ve seen. One time I went to my local community college and pretended I needed to buy the books for the Japanese class and they went “oh, you mean the Genki textbook, right?” There’s Genki 1 and Genki 2.

Then you have the Lingodeer app which does a better job than Duolingo for SEA languages so I hear. You could also do Kanji tree I liked okay. Then you can do podcasts on spotify as well as an app for Japanese radio. I think the Japanese government puts out simple Japanese newspapers. I think the lingodeer (and lingodeer+) app cost in order to use, but the rest is free iirc.

I apologize for knowing and being interested in knowing LIB alert

I’ll make a note of these, I’ve wanted to be able to learn how to read at the very least. It also gives me something to focus on doing in my spare time. Along with some theory. So thank you so much, I wanted to avoid duolingo so this is a great little dump of information.
As for apologising, you don’t have to ^^
