Here’s my uneducated theory:
The “investor class” in society have been freaking out and become desperate due to global technological innovation not making the same progress as it did through the 80’s to the 2000’s. Rich people without jobs were really expecting something that would have as much (if not more) of an impact on consumer society as the smart phone.
