• Joe Rogan, speaking Thursday on his podcast, said he preferred RFK Jr. for president.
  • By Friday, facing intense criticism from Donald Trump and his allies, the podcaster walked it back.
  • “I’m not the guy to get political information from,” Rogan said in a social media post.

“I’m not the guy to get political information from,” Rogan said in a social media post.

One of the most accurate things he’s ever said… but still not quite perfect.

This is exactly the point that I couldnt even listen to the geology/ultra-athlete/astronomy pods, which I really enjoyed listening to.

Once he couldn’t shut up about vaccines even though it was clear that nobody cared, it was a chore to listen to anything that he said.

he wasn’t even asking interesting questions to the interesting people anymore, he just had a very boring, pointless agenda to return his way to in spite of his guests.

I haven’t listened to any jre since the pandemic was still in full effect.

I tried once last year with a guest I really wanted to listen to, but within 10 minutes he start ed saying something way more right-wing than he ever had before covid.

oh I remember, he was listing the crazy amount of trans athletes that had won all these sports, and I was like well that can’t be true, and after checking, it was clearly not true according to the data.

did one trans weightlifter win one gold? Yes.

is one victory the statistical marker for trans athletes outperforming the other athletes in their field? Not at all according to the data we have.

and this wasn’t even a sports guest, it was some completely unrelated field.

I don’t think he’s ever had a plan - so while that’s his schtick, I don’t think it’s like a smokescreen or anything. He’s just some dumbass who wanted to start a show to interview interesting people and smoke weed. But, when you’re interviewing fringe political figures, racists, snake oil salesmen, etc. you have a journalistic duty that Joe Rogan: dumbass, was not prepared for and didn’t understand. Now he’s in over his head. People take him seriously, and he agrees with some of the crazy people he’s brought on because he’s a dumbass

Who he chooses for guests is separate from how he behaves with the guests that show up.

Regardless of which guests he had, his job is to get them talking.

You weren’t wrong but that’s a completely separate issue

Many people will say “well, he’s at least an expert on combat sports”

No, he’s not really. Most MMA practitioners will say that while he helped legitimise the UFC, MMA in general, and the rise of BJJ his takes are often from a point of either company bias, or personal bias. He’s got two black belts in BJJ and has experience in striking, but dude’s old enough that he’d probably get annihilated by a young purple belt, and aside from TKD he’s not completed in combat sports at a high level.

He respects it, and that’s great to see, but IMO he’s an example of the alpha male attitude that plagues combat sports.

The fuck after you talking about? His knowledge of mma has nothing to do with how well he can compete against other people at his age.

Your comment comes across as idiotic. Because it effectively says coaches arent worth the job they do because they are almost always people who couldnt or can no longer compete.

Such a dumb take. Theres plenty of reasons not to listen to Joe, stop making bad arguments to justify your opinions. Especially when your opinion isnt flawed —> He respects it, and that’s great to see, but IMO he’s an example of the alpha male attitude that plagues combat sports.

…What the fuck are you talking about?

Coaching and analysing are two entirely separate things. Joe Rogan has coached, albeit loosely in striking, but that’s got nothing to do with his role in the UFC. My point is that he is considered at a level that many others in the sport have long surpassed. There’s a reason why someone like Michael Bisping can come in and do a much better job, despite having his own clear biases, and that’s because he’s fought at the highest level with an inclination of what modern MMA is.

My point isn’t that he can’t compete because he’s older. It’s that even in his youth he wasn’t an elite-level fighter, outside of being great at TKD. While you don’t need to be skilled to analyse, it’s not like he’s a skilled journalist or commentator either. Many in MMA don’t value his opinion over journalists or skilled practitioners that have taken to analysis in retirement. He got the job through being famous and knowing about fighting before MMA was a thing, and now that it is a thing that people know a lot about, his gaps have been exposed severely.

Michael Bisping is an absolute bullshit artist when it comes to fight analysis or color commentary. Don’t believe me? Go listen to him juice up Leon Edwards for five rounds while Belal Muhammad is busy beating the shit out of him, and clearly running the octagon. Every UFC analyst does it, and they are arguably getting worse as time goes on regardless of their experience level with fighting.

Eh, I didn’t say that he was perfect, just that he’s objectively better than Rogan is - especially when paired with Cormier (who I really like).

The Rocky comparison is a tricky one, because the man’s crowning achievement is winning the title after being dominated and dragged back into the fight by his coach. I think the Belal fight surprised a lot of people, especially since Leon is no slouch on the ground. As a grappler myself I’m always going to back the wrestler, but I can see why Bisping would back Leon.

My issue with UFC above most MMA promotions is that it’s becoming more and more like WWE with every passing year. I wonder sometimes if it’s the commentators, or what they’re being told to push by Dana and co.

Rogan is the great litmus test for our society. He’s what a stupid person thinks a smart person is, just like how Trump is what a moron thinks a rich, successful person is.

So obviously such a complete dope grifter for anyone with an IQ greater than their shoe size, and yet he serves a purpose by being the standard of who should bother to talk to in life. If anyone you know says “you know, Joe Rogan said something interesting the other day…”, well - then you know you can nod politely, and ignore everything that person saiys going forward.

Only by pandering to the crowd can you still keep getting the likes, comments, shares you need to stay influential, so its the crowd that influences you. Your brand image — who the audience expects you to be — rarely stays in alignment with your ideal image — the person you want to be. By chasing the approval of others, you may, in the end, lose the approval of yourself.

This phenomenon is called audience capture, and it can have dire consequences…

We went to the tapings a few times and Joe would do the crowd warmup before the show. I remember him saying, “I just flew in from the Million Man March, and boy is my hatred of white people tired,” and i think we should have seen maga coming. Off topic- we ran to our car that night because we were being chased by a man who was screaming, “hey, got any money?” That was kinda scary.

You know how there are those celebrities which you’ve never heard a single bad thing about? Andy Dick is the opposite of that. I have never heard an anecdote from anyone who has met him which doesn’t at least cast him as an asshole, and it’s often more of a super creepy asshole.

Edit: But yes, News Radio was fantastic.

Pathetic “walking it back” followed by obnoxious remarks from a bad winner. Everyone involved is an embarrassing human being.
