Yes, but the rhetoric is what people pay attention to, and historically since Reagan, Republicans have had more appealing rhetoric about the economy to many swing voters.

Well… it’s not to much that the Republican rhetoric has been good, but that the neoliberal Democrat rhetoric has been shit. Recently (as in the past week), this has started to change with the Walz VP pick.

Democrats are saps and suckers, they spend money on social issues and will prioritize people over businesses so they can’t be good for the economy.

Republicans are bastards who don’t care about anything but money and power, so they’re good for business and thus good for the economy

      ^^^

This is the misconception we will all live under for our whole lives. The right will always be considered better for the economy because the population thinks cruelty = business success

There are certainly a lot of places where Democrats have fallen short but, in the big picture, Democrats are far less hostile to average Americans than the Republicans.

The worse the Republicans get, the more people want to see the Democrats as the “good guys”. That has unfortunately not been validated by Democratic policy most of the time. They do try to cater to average Americans, but only in ways that are palatable to the donor class. Republicans offer nothing to average Americans and rely entirely on culture war nonsense for popular support.
