A summary of the current US elections in the language and reporting style US media routinely uses for reporting on elections in the global south.

8/10 for effort, 10/10 for style, but 3.5/10 for execution. The phrase too cute by half springs to mind, but this is closer to too cute by three quarters.

What the hell are you talking about? This couldn’t be more on point! The execution is flawless…

“The country’s gross inequality and corruption are reflected in the organisation of the convention, with donors paying up to $5m for a seat in luxury suites at the venue. The event’s $85m budget is almost fully funded by the uber-wealthy and influential big-money groups in what one prominent journalist has described as a “pay-to-play” scheme.”

I’d rather not use their invented language to downplay their shit.

That word is being used by one of the Project 2025 co-authors.

Let’s call them what they are instead:

Nationalist Christofacists, or NatCs for short.

“Biden, a white, has already named his Vice President Kamala Harris, a Black, as his preferred successor to lead the former British colony, which is riven by ancient ethnic and racial hatreds.”

This is fucking perfect. It’s practically a nottheonion article.

I would argue that our ethnic and racial hatreds aren’t “ancient,” but otherwise it is factually accurate.

Right, but the religious and ethnic hatreds of the puritans, British, and all other colonizers stretches back thousands of years.

It’s not like the population of the US just manifested out of thin air in 1776.

Right, but then it’s not a particularly American hatred, it’s just the general religious division of humanity. You wouldn’t say “the ancient misogyny of Australia” because conservatives are trying to restrict access to healthcare. Misogyny is ancient, but it’s not unique to Australia.

The modern religious and ethnic divisions and hatred specific to America are relatively new. They are based on relatively modern ethnic and religious identities. There were no ancient Southern Baptists threatening ancient transgender olympic athletes for using ancient public restrooms.
