I still don’t get why you would want to pay for xitter.
Even for free I’m unconvinced of the value of using it on purpose.
I only browse it for R18 stuff. Hopefully one day I will be able to get most of it from Mastodon uwu.
You are part of the problem.
I do the same. Mastodon, Bluesky are fucking ghost towns, and of those who opened accounts, few use them. Lots of artists didn’t even do that (and have no alternative methods of sharing their content), so for lots it’s 🐦 porn or no porn, and brother idgaf what y’all think, I’m enjoying my porn.
You do understand that are multiple free sites dedicated to just porn, right? Porn is the probably the dumbest reason to use Twitter.
You are part of the problem that everyone else hates.
My interests are quite… niche.
Also points at my pfp
hate me, you’re still wrong <3
I’m sure there’s other beastiality sites out there you can view.
You are wrong. What you like is not normal. And you using Twitter does makes you part of the problem .
I never understood the appeal regardless. The character limit, the UI, and the content is trash
Musk will sue you if you stop paying.
2 factor authentication
Authentication code apps are free.
I’m pretty sure you need to pay for twitter to use 2fa with it though. (I don’t use twitter, I’ve just heard that this is a thing)
I still have an account so I can see replies and such. Elon made SMS codes part of Twitter Blue, but authentication apps and security keys are free. It might be one of the only somewhat sensible things he’s done with the site, seeing as it’s pretty expensive to send out codes over SMS.
Yubikeys are like the same price as Twitter premium annually.
And a lot better from a security standpoint. Hell, get a Bitwarden subscription.
40 million per month? For check marks? Shit, coming together with a unified move to mastodon to save money and society is the most painless of obligations for those in the limelight. I judge all who remain on that hell plane made manifest.
It would still take 6075 twitter mass subs cancellations to deplete Musk’s wealth though.
we need more posts like this on the front page. i’m so fucking sick of hearing about goddamn twitter
I’ve been say this for months and months but they are addicted to their followers.
it’s telling that not too long ago in threads like this there would always be someone chiming in to justify using twitter. now, nothing. they still suckle the twitter teat, they just gave up trying to defend it
I hope you are right and it’s not that we blocked all the twitter dweebs :)
I got ratioed for suggesting that OP was a piece of shit for justifying staying on twatter. I wonder where those chuds are now?
i’m so sick of hearing about twitter
we need more posts about twitter
pick one
we need more posts shitting on twitter
if your happy place is considering that to be “about twitter,” then ok.
the comment stands
you guys are paying for twitter???
You guys are going on shitter?
unfortunately yes, that’s where all the idiots i like laughing at exist, as well as mostly bots.

We’ve attempted this twice now… too many people are addicted to twitter and won’t quit, they are addicted to the twitter drama, no matter how bad the disinformation and hate speech get.
I think there will (or could) come a time. There has to be a limit. “Elon Musk sucks and Twitter is full of Nazis” doesn’t seem to be the limit, though.
I figured Twitter trying to dip into everyone’s pockets by paying for checkmarks would have been the limit. But what do I know, apparently.
The solution is to call anyone who uses Twitter a Nazi apologist. And it’s the truth. Anyone who uses Twitter thinks there’s a valid excuse for supporting Nazis, and a level of Nazism by the company owner that isn’t bad enough to leave over. The solution is shame.
The solution is to call anyone who uses Twitter a Nazi apologist.
The solution is shame.
At first I thought, “Good idea.” But I worry that it might start to dilute the stigma of the term ‘Nazi.’ People might start thinking, “They call everyone a nazi sympathizer. It’s not a big deal.”
If bad words only have a limited number of uses before they’re worthless, then we should be using them up against Nazis as quick as possible. Not saving our words while the Nazis grow exponentially more normalised. If we keep the Nazis down, they’ll remain a small threat and our words will have time to recharge. But if we let the Nazis gather strength, then they’ll overwhelm us faster than our words can recharge.
Twitter being owned by a Nazi isn’t even enough. There is nothing that will ever pry their pathetic fingers from Twitter. Fuckin’ Fanta sipping willfully ignorant pieces of shit.
Solid Boys reference
Never seen it, but given what I know about the show, hell yeah.
i wouldnt be using twitter but if i want to see don trump jr say that tim walz drinks horse cum, i need to be using twitter with an account unfortunately.
Read that sentence again and rethink your choices.
i would like to be able to do that, but unfortunately i’m not a republican so these things don’t have an insignificant effect on my life.
I guess I don’t get the joke here.
idk apparently people think i’m joking. Personally i prefer to know what the political parties are getting up to on the internet, and elon musk the cunt himself thinks i shouldnt be able to without an account so thats cool.
The choice of headline you went with made the whole thing read like an inside out sarcasm.
oh yeah no that original tweet is real. It’s not sarcastic at all.
I don’t have a X/Twitter account anymore but can still read tweets or whatever they’re called these days
They’re called “xeets.” In my head anyway.
you can still read some tweets of some accounts, it blocks most of the new tweets and visible replies, plus if you wanna see anything spicy, you literally need an account.
technically the web archive gets around this but then you need a direct tweet link, and finding that shit is too much effort.
I mean, I’ve never had a twitter account but I’ve heard it plenty. Just peek over at /r/conservative once a week or so.
I finally got around to deleting Facebook this year too when I found out they’ll cross post your Instagram stuff to Facebook if you don’t click a box somewhere.
I get a lot more stuff done without the doomscrolling.
Just peek over at /r/conservative
is that somewhere on lemmy?
Fair, but if the excuse is that you can’t get the information elsewhere, that’s just not true. I’d rather give reddit the page views and clicks over Facebook or Twitter.
At least over there, Nazi content actually earns you a ban.
reddit ironically has a worse front page, and worse business practices, arguably.
I mean I agree, I didn’t like what they were getting up to, that’s why I’m here, but as bad as Twitter? Comon. Have you heard Elon lately?
i mean spez was head mod of jailbait…
They’re both pretty bad/
yeah idk i find i dont really have a problem with doomscrolling, it’s easy enough to just hit the close button and do something else for me, other than that i like to see the stupid shit people are posting.
also its nice to verify certain posts as “real”
Each person that uses x is a piece of shit. I’m just saying it as it is. There are plenty of other options.
Facebook and Instagram by Zuckerberg? Tik Tok by the Chinese government? Reddit by Spez? Everything is a terrible option.
I don’t use Twitter/x or anything but Lemmy, but the social media world is owned by terrible corporations and terrible people.
Mastodon is the federated alternative to twitter.
And, like Lemmy, lacks a large userbase comparable to that of Twitter or Facebook
Sites with small user bases will never grow as long as everyone is waiting for everyone else to migrate before doing so themselves.
The problem is that the Network Effect keeps people trapped in the original social media network silos.
No matter how much you want to leave, if the other options simply don’t have enough users to meaningfully engage with the topics you’re interested in, then it’s very hard (but not impossible) to switch over.
A lot of people on Twitter might be part of micro-communities that simply don’t have any presence on Lemmy or Mastodon yet, or they might be there to follow a specific person’s updates on a given project, which can’t exist on the other platforms unless that person decides to migrate themselves (which necessitates losing access to the majority of your fanbase at the start, and hoping they’ll all choose to move over solely because of you.)
I’m not saying it’s a bad idea to migrate, but it’s not as easy as a lot of people make it seem by implying people can just switch whenever they want to without major consequence. For a lot of people, switching would mean losing an entire community completely, or being wholly cut off from the people and topics they were previously following. And as much as they might not want to support a social media oligarch, if they switch, they have a lot to lose before it possibly gets better for them.
Pretty much everything important is mirrored somewhere
But, for several reasons is a much worse experience for people with a large number of followers, especially if they are from a marginalized group.
Everyone should get off X, but I find it hard to recommend any replacement. Threads and Bluesky have problems, but they might work better than Mastodon for some people or organizations.
I use adblock so I am doing this planet a service by adding load to their shitty serveris 👍
Deleting X is a violation of his first amendment rights and he’ll sue all of you!
the first ever reverse class-action lawsuit
40 millimeter dollars?
40 Mega Man dollars.
40 Zennies*.
Nice username
mm means millions
I guessed that from context and was just making fun of it. Writing it that way is definitely confusing and shouldn’t be done. “mm” is internationally recognized as “millimeters”. In financial papers, sometimes, Roman numerals “MM” are used to indicate millions, but then it should strictly be capitalized. In my opinion, for general use, number followed by a single “m” conveys the idea best ($40m), and followed by “k” for thousand ($40k). Use capitals for more formal settings ($40M and $40K).
For sure! I hate the ambiguity that it adds. MM in upper or lowercase is something I’ve seen for millions in financial and business contexts, along with a single m for thousand. To avoid ambiguity I ended up using K for thousands and MM for millions back in the day.
Where did that K in thousand come from after all, anyway? M for million makes sense. K for thousand doesn’t.
Shorthand for kilo, recognisable if you use metric.
That makes perfect sense, I can’t believe I didn’t make that connection - and, yeah, I’ve definitely outed myself as an American. Fair enough.
How do I delete X? I’d love to, but I don’t think I have the access or permissions to delete an entire company.
It’s a matter of perspective. Delete it from your personal universe by uninstalling the app and blocking the website.
Have you learned nothing from GTA?
Steal a tank
I thought that sort of corporate warfare was more Saints Row and involved septic trucks.
My thoughts exactly
Tomato, tomotto
Wait, X is still a thing??
You mean Twitter?
What is this? Facebook?!
I’m beginning to think that destroying it was the whole point.
Tesla, too.
don’t ascribe to malice what can be perfectly explained by incompetence.
Yes, that is generally true. But Elon has shown time and time again that he is an inherently malicious individual.
Is it implausible that a jackass like Elon would spend a small fraction of his wealth to destroy a company that hurt his wittle feelwings?
not in a vacuum, but I find it improbable he would willfully want to do it in a way that makes him look stupid.
That’s how you get abused and keep getting abused.
Don’t fall for the glass onion
I’ve never heard that phrase before. What does it mean/reference?
A glass onion is something that appears to have numerous layers and complexity. But in truth, it’s completely transparent. It usually refers to people trying to ascribe meaning and genius to the actions of giblethead billionaires.
I watched that whole movie without a single thought of what glass onion might even mean.
I tried to enter my old twitter account the other day as I needed to check some info that was only in a tweets.
I couldn’t see tweets without login so In. tried to login and they pop-up me with so much shit that I didn’t even tried. They didn’t trusted my login and I couldn’t be bothered to close so many pop-ups to enter the verification code they sent to the email (while of course saying that if I logged in their shitty app or with a google account it all will be easier).
Sum up. I didn’t check the info. And for now onwards if your organization only post on twitter your organization is non-existent to me as I cannot access that info, plain as that.
Made a twitter account about 15yr ago but never really used. Tried to log in recently to delete the account. Can’t remember my username, just the email address used. Can only do a password reset if I know username. but no option to be reminded of username…
I’m really sort of disappointed somebody hasn’t launched some transfer service for the entire platform.
There was almost one but then Xitter nuked their public API which makes it almost impossible, from memory. They knew this would happen, and they did everything they could to stop it.
What other site do we know of that made their API a pain to use killing the app that I used to tolerate that site that a good chunk of is migrated from?
Ummmm . . . Hang on . . It was, uh . . man I wanna sayyyyy . . Rowdy? Rumblejunk? Dang. Oh well. Guess it’s gone.
