Genuine question.
I actually don’t know where to start. Do I just keep what I’ve been doing for a while and use search on Spotify? Is there anything “off the beaten path”, so to speak?
Please give me some tips and tricks on finding 'em. Thanks.
I usually find them through other podcasts or video creators (collabs, interviews, recommendations, etc.)
Yeah, same
If you’d like some recommendations, I’ve listened to various episodes of Marx Madness, Proles of the Round Table, Revolutionary Left Radio, Blowback (more of an audio-only documentary than a podcast), The Deprogram, and likely others I can’t recall at the moment
Those are fine, but a bit over-recommended; I like going off the beaten path.
Maybe Reimagining Soviet Georgia? I’ve only listened to it briefly, but it seems interesting so far
Fuck Spotify, all my homies hate Spotify. I use the PocketCasts app which is free and allows users to upload public feeds of “premium” podcasts so you can get a lot of the paywall shit for free.
As for podcasts, usually from guests on other podcasts. I can second the recs for The Deprogram, Rev Left and Blowback. I’ll add The Dollop, TrueAnon, and Well There’s Your Problem as good podcasts done by leftists.
Sure.
So PockeCasts has ALL the podcasts out there?
Very recently tried out PocketCasts after many years, and the interface feel very similar to AntennaPod. But I still prefer and recommend AntennaPod over PocketCasts.
I really like Citations Needed, Red Menace and A World To Win With Grace Blakeley. Not really off the beaten path so to speak, but sound analysis.
Also, you can get AntennaPod, instead of Spotify and just do keyword searches for topics that are tags or metadata too, on like different indexes there
Does it include ALL podcasts?
Well, you can’t access the Joe Rogan show because it’s a Spotify exclusive. So no, but are we losing anything of value? Also no.
Podcasts publish new episodes on an RSS feed. There are many podcast clients that read the RSS feed link and present to you the episodes so you can stream or download them. This makes the podcast a decentralized media format. Spotify is trying to centralize it by hiding RSS feeds and creating exclusive “podcasts” that can only be accessed from Spotify.
If you can find the public RSS feed link then AntennaPod, Pocket casts, gPodder, whatever podcast client, can access it.
Many people probably hate Spotify for podcasts because it’s trying to kill an open format. If Spotify can get control over podcasts then they decide what can and can’t be created.
Oh, I didn’t know. So you can find it all on AntennaPod or Pocket Casts?
Spotify is trying to centralize it by (…) creating exclusive “podcasts” that can only be accessed from Spotify.
If you can find the public RSS feed link then (…) whatever podcast client, can access it.
I can’t think of a communist show that Spotify would by the exclusive rights to. Check out whether all the shows you listen to are available, all the ones I do are.
alright
It has the entire iTunes index and more. So yes?
wdym
Trash future can be funny but it’s very dem soc.
It’s fine. Tankie stuff is hard to come by. You take what you can get.
It is, on their livestreams they always stand and salute for the soviet national anthem as a gag but its a gag. They give me very dem soc vibes which is listenable but there’s definitely more tankie podcasts you could listen to. Given they are British and Canadian it’s to be expected the content is somewhat reigned in.
gotcha
I usually get recommended then after I’ve listened to some on Spotify. You could start with “Rev Left” and “The Deprogram”, both of those are very good
I know about 'em.
Punchout with Eugene Puryear is a great brief news overview through a socialist lens
