  • Hey comrade you’re my state neighbor! (I’m from Virginia) I’ve also had issues talking in political settings. Mainly this group that one of my friends made. It’s online but has a dozen or so people from where I live. Most of the people are completely politically ignorant but some are soc dems. I try linking to videos I think would help open their eyes a little bit (second thought mostly), and sometimes I do try writing paragraphs and having discussions but usually it’s shut down by people just saying I’m wrong. With no real reason. And I feel like it’s a certain type of person that thinks they know the most in the room. I think to have a constructive or personal talk about politics you really have to find a person that you can trust/ has a certain type of personality.

  • I think a lot of people don’t realize that the problems capitalism causes are because of capitalism; they attribute it to something different to shift the blame. Ex: “big government did war” “this single individual is corrupt” “this corp. Is evil because they chose to be”

From my experience talking to people they just don’t take the extra step to realize why things happen. I’ve never actually talked to someone that doesn’t get squid game (although I’ve only talked to one person about it total lol) but if I had to guess they’d either attribute the issues the characters face to being the fault of ‘the capitalist system not being implemented correctly’, blaming the characters for their issues, or just they’re just dumb and don’t try to get a deeper meaning from stories (nothing wrong with just enjoying entertainment imo).

This also reminds of the one article: “the creator of squid game said it’s about capitalism, but really it’s more like communism”

  • Yeah I’ve read some other comments and realized that maybe enacting rights that don’t materially change people’s lives aren’t as important to enact straight away. Especially if there is still a large reactionary force it’d probably be better to educate them before provoking them. I think it’s extremely important to protect gay/trans rights, but marriage in particular (and maybe some other things) that don’t make people’s lives all too much better could wait until socialism is more stable. I’m open to changing my mind though if someone has a counterpoint.
