    This makes a lot of sense to me. As much as it’s great to have donations, companies that are benefiting from being downstream from Wikimedia projects really should be compelled to pay their way. This way, they can also hopefully avoid Mozilla’s trap of being almost entirely reliant on one revenue stream (the Google search contract, in Mozilla’s case).

    It’s good to seek sustainability. If you’re profiting or making any kind of money from an open-source or open-data project, it makes sense in my mind that (as a company) you should either financially contribute or help with its development.
