For example: I want to see a story about an old man from the red army going to the dark side of the moon to kick nazi ass (Because that’s where they are hiding obvi). Just random shit like that, where socialist people, projects, themes, ideas, and histories are represented with pride and care. No hollywood anti-communist bullshit like Enemy at the Gates (excellent critique of that movie here by a fellow communist) and no stupid profit motive pushing artists past their ability or censoring their works unnecessarily to push deadlines.

Unbiased documentaries about the history of past socialism. Right now the only way to know the truth is to read old documents yourself or through relatively small independent sources. A big budget production with all the bells and whistles to educate about this kind of history to make it approachable to the layman is something I wish to see more of.

It makes my blood boil to see him framed as an evil man in every single piece of popular media out there. He saved us all from fascism and we failed him.

aye. may we redeem his name with action.

Also I kinda would love to see him in works framed the same way as the west frames their popular historical figures. Like bill and ted, but Stalin is there just chillin, or getting angry there is no workers unions around in bill and ted’s capitalist hellhole. Either is fine. I just want to see positive outlooks on Stalin, and no more red-scare bullshit.

I want to see documentaries and films about all the real efforts put forth to reverse climate change, restore ecologies, return endangered species to their natural habitat, regrow lost vegetation, and overall see everything bloom again.

I want to see news stories about “the last person to be homeless” with fanfare celebrating as they walk into their new beautiful home. I want stories showing truly restorative journeys conquering and overcoming opioid addictions. I want to see the last trailer park get demolished by a backhoe while the camera pans out to show a sign for new good quality public housing condos.

I want to see natural disasters handled with such efficiency there are no deaths or injuries and interviews with people who just lost their homes saying something like, “It is hard but we’ve been given good housing while we rebuild and everyone is safe and together. The emergency workers even found our old photos and they are at the government restoration labs now, and we should get all our memories back in a week! The old regime would never have done this for us.” I want to see stories about the disbandment of last of the world’s nuclear arsenals.

I want to see documentaries about the formation of the “Coalition of Former Colonized Socialist Republics” showing how an incredible pact of socialist nations consisting of former colonized peoples formed and elevated their people above the effects of colonization and can now find fulfilment and happiness in their restored cultures and identities, treated with equal dignity by their peers.

Basically, I want to see the opposite of today’s trends.

I want to see documentaries without the sensationalism that plagues so many today. I want to see media educating people on everything from black holes to the development of agriculture to the mating habits of the common house spider.

I may be biased here, as I’m writing a similiar story, but I’d also like to see a science fiction show about socialist nations banding together to fight a capitalist threat.

I suppose my wording was unclear. These are not truly documentaries. I was thinking of the Hitler’s Secret Weapon!!! or How Will We Ever Know How People Stacked Rocks??? types. They pose and present themselves as documentaries, giving the watcher the sense they’re learning, but at best the viewer learns nothing. At worst it’s thinly veiled racism cough Ancient Aliens cough.

maybe thats why the purges really happened, they had finally established a socialist oriented country and then some lib ass dude just started spouting off, and all the commies snapped and were like “I never wanna hear these fuckers again na uh”

Everything, really. From the profound works of art to the casual entertaining story to the campy knock-offs to the most niche, guilty-pleasure, trope-filled webcomic you can imagine. And we will need to reinvent almost all of it.

I think we will need a solid amount of media retelling myths and popular stories without the capitalistic lens that colors almost everything. Because capitalist media has been super effective and as much fun as documentaries are, we need the subtlety of “casual and entertaining” storytelling as well. Possibly more so. Creatives might not need to be as subtle as we are now within a capitalist distribution of stories, but we do need to be just as prolific in putting enough stories out there in every genre that will help normalize ways of fighting exploitation. I think we in the west, in particular, have a bad habit of ignoring how much general media affects us, so the counters to capitalistic media are few and most of our literature is very direct about what you are getting on the cover from communist organizations. We have no real organized publication for fictional media. And that bites us pretty heavily as we can’t normalize seeing what a worker-controlled workplace actually looks like for people we’re trying to reach. And in the future, that kind of media needs to be as readily available as capitalist media is today in every place you look. I’d like to see us reimagine and shake up entire genres—what do superheroes look like through a communist lens? Zombies? What is the communist take on fantasy worlds where kings are chosen via magic weapons? Because with an ML lens, these things change drastically and could inject some amazing commentary into the various genres and flip many of them on their heads. And that is what I’m most interested in seeing. That storytelling truly comes alive with new lessons to help navigate and understand the world (which is the evolutionary purpose of storytelling). Most importantly, if we don’t, the hundreds of years of capitalist-biased media will have some ugly ramifications.

I want everything we have now but ML and the associated basedness that would come with that.

More representation, more focus on social issues and a move away from the status quo appeasing dross of modern media.

I want to see hopeful stories. I want to see a character start a story with some great idea about how to make the world better and see them start to make it happen, rather than be stopped by a super-powered imperialist “hero.” I want utopian stories which make us think about what humanity could accomplish and inspire us to work towards some of those ideals. I want to see the stories artists come up on their own time from their own heads, without deadlines or profit maximization infinite universes of never-ending fascism.

I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries lately and one thing that’s always missing from the mainstream ones is any sort of exploration into why the people or organizations involved do exploitative things. I understand of course why even a simple superficial questioning of the conditions that motivate bad behaviour is taboo. I’d love to see more documentaries with a dialectical materialist angle.

That’s actually a good question. Sounds so simple on the surface, but the more I think of it, the more I realize how much of my taste in media (and what’s available at all) is shaped by the capitalist system.

Perhaps a comedy that doesn’t make me want to claw my eyeballs out. Pop-sci series that isn’t steeped in liberal bias - a modern take on Walking with Dinosaurs perhaps?

Perhaps a video game like Civilization, but without the cultural stereotypes?

As I said - the question is harder than it seems.

I’m writing some satirical, future, global intrigue stuff. But focused on a communist world that is fighting off the last capitalist strongholds of the world. Im trying to explore the ridiculous reality of the liberal, reactionary imperialist mind and the difficulty of pacifism and the infantile disorder of anarchy and puritanical ultras.

I want to add a badass trans communist character, but I don’t feel confident about writing them in. See, the problem is I’m straight. I know, I know, I’m sorry lol. Would anybody suggest anything on how to approach? Or should I avoid writing about trans people altogether? What should I avoid besides tokenism or portraying trans people as a stereotype. What should I strive for?

I really appreciate trans people bc they’ve always been around and they’re brave as hell. Idk, just knowing the rates of depression for trans youth makes me sad. I think we don’t show them enough love in our culture. If we can just normalize trans expressions of gender, I think that would be a positive thing. But maybe I’m just a dumbass. Ha!

I would like to see films delving into the lives of young LGBTQ+ communists. I think it would help dismantle the black legend about communists being hostile towards LGBTQ+. And I think it could also show the correlation between the oppression of the LGBTQ+ community and the system of late capitalism and its horrible consequences for the emancipation of the human being.

And I would like a series of war movies in which war crimes committed by the U.S. are accurately portrayed, in opposition to Marvel and its apology to the U.S. military.

I once had a friend in the fourth reich (who claimed to be an ML) tell me that every chinese media is bad, because the “oppressive gobberment” is dictating the media to create “false propaganda”.

It always grinds my gears when I see yanks just dismissing objective truths and calling them “lies” or “fake propaganda” simply because it doesn’t line up with what they’ve been told. Like, I had that same ex-friend genuinely tell me that I can’t trust history! Lol

It would be great to watch a documentary about global south left-wing movements that doesn’t end with a massacre. It would be nice to see it have a happy ending, despite past tragedies.
