    Duh. The bears live in bear land (arctic as in arctus as in bear). Penguins thus literally live in no bear land (ant-arctic).

      TIL! I only knew “ursus,” which is of course Latin.

      But apparently Arctus was a centaur named bear, whereas “arktos” is closer to the ancient Greek word for bear…

      Still leads to Arctic of course.

    Because according to a super popular post from earlier today as far as I can tell there are alligators in Egypt and that’s totally funny because “the Nile” kinda sounds like the word “denial” depending on your regional accent and your ability to turn your brain cells off?
