I hope to see this growth spread out across the entire Fediverse. And I think it will, as people get more familiar with Mastodon, they will check out PixelFed, Lemmy and others.
Yeah, it’s a self reinforcing phenomenon. The more people use the fediverse the more content there is and the more enticing it becomes to new users. It also helps that different platforms in the fediverse can talk to each other, so if one platform is popular it also helps generate content for others.
Another thing that the fediverse has going for it is that it’s not reliant on profit to function. Traditional companies must create revenue and profit to stay afloat. This is especially problematic for VC funded companies where investors want to see returns to continue investing. If a company stops being able to show growth then it dies. On the other hand, fediverse just needs to be self sustaining. As long as there are enough people who are willing to work on development, run servers, and produce content, it can go on indefinitely without the need to grow.
I predict that the fediverse will outlast every commercial social media platform in existence today.
Hope it grows even more
Indeed!
Yay?
The growth is very rapid and seems like the network is scaling relatively well so far. This is very promising.
