I’ve been playing more and more magic recently, and have been even maintaining both a modern deck (izzet murktide sorry) and a pioneer deck (arclight Phoenix though it’s not suuuuper strong rn) I don’t really play commander because unfortunately none of my friends IRL actually play with me!

Was just curious if anyone else had been doing anything in MTG recently, or had any thoughts on the new cards coming in the Lord of the Rings set. Personally, as someone who doesn’t play commander, it doesn’t seem super impactful on Modern, though I’m hardly an expert on card evaluation so maybe someone else could (though there’s a counter on creatures with MV under 2 for just one blue so maybe that’ll be worth picking up)

I haven’t been buying sealed product since WOTC sent the Pikertons to that one guy. But I am lately just Commander only, and my local shop has a biweekly tournament and I came in 4th place in the 1st of 6 rounds for a prize pool.

I at least came above the guy I dislike the most.

I got into magic 5 years ago and played magic arena a ton, but my interest dropped in the last year. The Pinkerton nonsense was the latest Wotc controversy that drove me away from buying mtg product.

That being said I do enjoy the weekly pioneer night at my local game store. I just wish more of my friends played it.

Mostly standard on arena. No local friends who play and a five year old kid at home means I don’t have time to go to a local store for FNM.

    Love the game though. 😁

You know I actually have been playing arena, though I’ve been playing historic! Standard was a pain to keep up on in a digital format like that

Just started a week ago, this stuff looks fun, im currently playing on arena and just finished the color challenges, just ordered a sealed 2022 starter deck

Also have vague memories of playing (or just mashing random buttons) on mtgo when I was like 6

I’ve been only playing MTG Arena. I like it because I can get my magic fix in, collect cards, open packs, and participate in drafts. All without spending a dime. It’s a bit of a grind to be free2play, but it’s kind of fun to login once a day, play a few games, and get the dailies done.

I used to play back in 2009-2012 or 2013. To be fair, I’m not keen on playing PvP or competitive games. It tends to bring the uglier side of me out and I don’t like it.

Recently, I started looking into the “co-op” variants, like Horde MTG (unofficial) and the Challenge decks (which I found out was discontinued 😥 ). I’m waiting for my best friend to have the time and inclination to check it out but I look forward to it. Between the two of us, we have a lot of cards so I’m excited to put them to use again!

I haven’t played MTG since like 2004. I wouldn’t even know where to start to hop back into it or if the game would even be recognizable to me now if I did. I actually sort of went and looked at modern Yu-Gi-Oh and it feels like a different game entirely than what I remember lol

It’s a very different game, creatures for example are waaaaaaaaaaaay stronger these days, there’s several new card types, stuff like that. Though at the core things are not that different

i play mostly commander with my friends, and some limited, so i think this set offers a bunch of toys for both formats. my wife and i are planning to go to a 2 headed giant prerelease event soon, where we’ll probably lose :) but it’ll be fun.

Right now booster draft format is getting more and more polished each day. Many people said March of the Machine is one of top 5 set to draft, after saying it the same for Dominaria United last year and before that, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. This also helps people who build their own custom limited set (cube) and commander to find their niche getting more and more supported. I like the direction of this game going on limited design.

The new blue spell is great by stopping etb effect unlike Fatal Push.

I’ve heard pretty good stuff about most limited environments lately, though tbh I haven’t regularly drafted in ages, not really my jam.

Agreed! Though I think it is an option for slots where you’d have like spell snare or something over slots with your removal, because it feels pretty bad on the draw. Also most 1 and 2 drops don’t have insane etbs or anything, at least in modern.

I’m playing a lot of Commander and some Modern and Pioneer. Will be dipping my toes into fully proxied Legacy soon. Overall, I prefer the theme building and deckbuilding freedom in Commander, but I can also appreciate the 60 card competitive gameplay.

Recently I scrapped my Perrie, the Pulverizer deck after it wasn’t performing. I turned it into a Denry Klin deck, hoping to try that out soon!

I play almost exclusively commander, but I play pretty much every week. I try to catch the prerelease for each set when it hits too just because I really like playing sealed (drafts stress me out though) I’m a little out of the loop on the LotR stuff because I’m traveling for work but I have seen a few cards I will certainly be grabbing for my commander decks.

Me? I’m missing 4-player Commander games in MTGO and cursing the current hyper-monetary practices of Wizards of the Coast, especially in the last few years.
