• I’m not a fan of this mentality, crying isn’t feminine it’s what you do or should to when you feel bad and need to let it out. The idea that it’s a feminine or unmanly thing to do is really toxic because crying is something we should all do when we need to, otherwise we bottle up the negative emotions which isn’t healthy and doesn’t feel good.

As I understood @TotallyNotJessica, they did not mean having a mental breakdown is a feminine thing, but wearing a skirt.

Having a mental breakdown the feminine way = having a mental breakdown while wearing a skirt, as OP proposed.

I’m still a tiny little bit offended by the idea that skirts are an exclusive feminine thing. There are male skirts.

I’m not saying sadness and crying are feminine or that anger and stoicism is masculine. I’m talking about crying in pretty dresses or using your nails and high heels as weapons when you angrily attack. Pink straightjackets and padded cells. Be sad in a crop top and skirt. Pretend misogynistic remarks and actions don’t bother you. Smile through your frustration when men assume you’re incompetent. Act like a happy trad wife despite your husband abusing you. Smile through the pain if you’re feminine and keep a poker face if you’re masculine.

Not letting people know that you’re an emotional being by bottling up your feelings is less gendered than one might think.

It feels about the same as crying without one, but I’m sure it feels better than not crying at all and bottling up the unpleasant emotions as opposed to letting them out, which is what most people do. I recommend doing it if you feel bad, it’s very unhealthy to bottle up your emotions, I’ve never done it, whenever I feel bad like I’m going to cry I just cry.

Obviously for people who have been conditioned not to it’ll be harder to let it out, but you should try, you’ll feel much better afterwards, trust me on that.
