After Netflix’s latest policy changes and a string of bad experiences with Paramount Plus, I’m getting tired of these subscription services, the same way I got tired of Cable TV. Has anyone started moving away from these services or others? Where have you moved to?

Yes. However we keep it legal. There are other places to go for pirated content and we don’t want this to be that place.

I ditched cable years ago. It’s been a challenge though finding a good reliable alternative esp considering I’m an avid sports ball watcher so trying to find a service that covers all the sports I watch has been a bit exhausting. Started with PlayStation Vue. Loved it but then it shut down. Switched to YoutubeTv and it was actually pretty decent but then they lost regional sports channels. So then I moved to Hulu+ well then their pricing started getting a bit ridiculous and they also lost some sports channels. So I jumped ship again and now I’m with DirectTV Stream which again is actually pretty good but their pricing continues to rise.

If the sports services (NHL, MLB, NFL etc) weren’t still stuck in the stone ages and still doing blackouts for local teams I’d say fuck it and ditch DirectTV and just subscribe to those services. It’s not like I really watch any tv shows mostly just reruns of the office, big bang etc plus I have my plex server with all those shows anyways so I’m really only paying for sports 🙄.

I’m about out of streaming options lol. I’ve gone the 🏴‍☠️ route but I get mildly hostile when issues happen during the middle of my games 🤣 so I’ve stuck to the legit services. But it’s like these companies intentionally make shit difficult like I’m TRYING to give you my money but you are almost forcing me to 🏴‍☠️ your shit because the current legal options are becoming increasingly ignorant and expensive.

That’s the issue. I haven’t found where to move either. I’d rather pay for a VPN and find any other solution.

Yeah it’s free, ad supported. But the ads aren’t nearly as obtrusive or long as other similar services. I like it because it’s like Netflix was back in the day. Has all the weird hard to find stuff, cult films, things like that.

Plex is able to be used legitimately at various levels depending on where you live, and in a bit of a grey area that most people are ok with pretty much everywhere in the US.

The grey area is ripping content from DVDs and Blurays that you own. It is technically illegal I believe since you are breaking the encryption on it? But most people seem to not mind because it just doesn’t feel that bad to buy a movie or TV series on a physical disc and then rip it to a hard drive.

You can also pretty easily pair something like Plex with a HDHomerun or similar tuner and a TV antenna to record and stream local TV shows. I’ve almost got all of Walker Texas Ranger recorded now. Plex does a pretty good job of removing commercials also.

I’m not aware of any other legitimate way of watching content in the US without a cable subscription or a streaming subscription?
