iirc also ppl driving trucks, specifially ford f150s, are more likely to be drunk driving (and kill you) than any other vehicle on the road.

Killing someone while driving drunk should be treated the same as first degree murder, injuring someone while driving drunk should be first degree assault. Why it’s a different charge in court is beyond me.

Definitely a case of “these are the cars popular with selfish irresponsible pricks!” I mean, that’s not surprising considering the general attitudes of people who drive them, at least in urban areas.

Also, take a look at drunk driving case records in the US. The number of people convicted of killing or injuring someone while definitely drunk and then getting slap on the wrist sentences–complete with being allowed to drive again–is mind numbing.

Going to post this comment again:

A few days ago when I was walking home, on the last street with a stop sign I had to cross, there was a person driving one of those oversized American-style pickup trucks that kept inching forward even after I started walking on the road. I had to stop just before the truck. I gave a “WTF” gesture with my arms, and when he noticed, he smiled and waved kind of sheepishly before driving off. Pretty sure he straight up couldn’t see me, an average height adult. Imagine if I had been a small child with a less firm grasp on road safety.
