DISCLAIMER: if you’re looking for the usual summary, just go directly here. I’ve got a spleen to vent.
Say what you will, but I just can’t let this piece of news go. I actually have two subjects I’d like to broach.
First, I gauge reader reaction by voting, both positive and negative, as I am of the school of thought that participation is a good thing, regardless of in which direction the voting may go. Don’t test my limits on this.
I post about a man who diverted a river, your reaction was (at last look) 29 upvotes. I post about a trans woman’s testicles left in her ex’s fridge, 34 ups and 2 downs plus 27 comments even. I post about Taylor Swift, oh well then, 77 ups, 14 downs and comments galore! “Every gun death is avoidable”? 106 up, 16 down and, boy, were you all vocal with your 52 comments!
I post about an elected Michigan State Representative espousing racist conspiracies only David Duke could love and imbeciles would believe and…11 upvotes. Crickets. Don’t believe me?

Far be it for me to tell you how you should feel or react to a situation. But, sincerely and with all due respect…how are you all not angered by this? I mean, y’all get riled by GNOME v KDE v some strange-ass TUI. Kirk v Picard v who-the-feez-ever? Outrage City. This? Crickets. Your silence on this matter concerns me.
The second subject I wanted to touch on is…tell me Michigan House Speaker Joe Tate doesn’t look like Clark Kent two seconds before he rips open his button-down shirt!
There are a lot of posts that get downvoted because people don’t like their content, not because the subject isn’t of interest or isn’t worth talking about. I would hesitate to read overly much into it. Hell, sometimes I get into the comments and forget to upvote the top post.
The engagement is key. Votes seem less-so to me. But I’d note that the engagement here is about your rant.
As to your second point, honestly I thought that before you even commented.
Again, I wasn’t complaining about downvotes nor upvotes. I thought I was clear on that. I honestly don’t care whether a post is upvoted or downvoted but it is one of the only ways, other than comments, that I can gauge what may be interesting to the community. My “problem” essentially was the participation level on a Taylor Swift post as opposed to a truly important topic.
Look, we in SE Michigan have an idiot racist who is posting pseudo-science racial theories that is acting as our State Representative and I sure as hell am not going to sit quiet about it. I thought more people would be of the same mind but, for whatever
excusesreasons they may have, I could be wrong.Unfortunately, Speaker Joe Tate does not wear a blue leotard under his suit. I mean, maybe he does but…just joking, Joe!!
