Some sources suggest he was taking a walk and suddenly fell to the ground. Very mysterious. Guess they ran out of windows.

I would like a choice tbh. You think the alternative is not a racist bigot either? It would be nice if putins political adversaries didn’t die in an arctic prison for what I recall when he was recalled to Russia was some fraud with is company or whatever. And they had to threaten him with his wife to get him back. The moment he stepped how foot on Russia, prison and torture. And now he dies, for what was announced as fraud. Yeah right.

Russia is a broken nation where ruthlessness is required to survive, to the point where someone who literally worked with the US to end communism is the country’s biggest and only chance of getting it back. If you watched the Putin interview yes he was willing to chum it up with Cucker Tarlson, but he also talked fondly of killing nazis, a point that really got under the white nationalist’s skin.

My point is, regardless of the situation you shouldn’t be siding with nazis.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Russia’s most significant opposition leader for the past decade, Alexei Navalny, has died in prison inside the Arctic Circle, the prison service said.

Seen as President Vladimir Putin’s most vociferous critic, Navalny was serving a 19-year jail term for offences widely considered politically motivated.

He was moved to an Arctic penal colony, considered one of the toughest jails, late last year.

The prison service in the Yamalo-Nenets district said he had “felt unwell” after a walk on Friday.

The causes of his death were being established, Tass news agency reported.

This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.

The original article contains 168 words, the summary contains 104 words. Saved 38%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

Oh right, this instance’s hot takes are going to be complete nonsense. ‘The tortured opposition leader wasn’t perfect, you guys!’ No kidding. He still gets partial credit for sticking his neck out against a dictator-for-life who routinely murders opposition leaders. Everyone you’d prefer is already fucking dead.

But telling you where to shove it would be uncivil.

The funniest thing I’ve seen on Lemmy was someone insisting socialism is pragmatic and liberals are idealists, because it comes to mind every single god-dang time one of y’all shits all over opposition to outright dictatorship. So long as the dictator is from a country you insist was actually state-capitalist - the real evil is anyone fighting brutal profiteering autocracy, unless they’re ideologically pure.

Navalny is a literal racist and far right nationalist. Even western mainstream media was forced to admit this.

In 2021, a BBC article reported even Amnesty International was forced to strip Navalny’s “prisoner of conscience” status for the violence and hate he unremorsefully promoted https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-56181084

That same month, US government-funded Radio Free Europe likewise was forced to concede Navalny’s extremist background https://www.rferl.org/a/navalny-failure-to-renounce-nationalist-past-support/31122014.html

The fact that people like you champion him as some OpPosItiOn to a DicTatoRshiP, shows just how utterly morally bankrupt you lot are.

“Forced to admit”? That means they reported on him, accurately, the way free media does. I don’t know what’s worse, how thick the Putin propaganda is here, or how little effort is behind it.

Oh…was Alexia the Russian leader who, like Hitler, is invading sovereign countries to expand their territory, refuses to tolerate dissent, murders or disappears those who speak out against him, cancels fair elections and then murders his political opponent, and relies on outrageously fake state propaganda and secret police to ensure loyalty?

Because all of that sounds very Vlad, very Vlad indeed.

Everyone who’s not ideologically pure is literally Hitler. You figured out politics and it’s super simple, good job.

Any liberals in the resistance movements against Hitler were literally Hitler.

Nobody but your special favorite friends are allowed to oppose a warmongering autocrat currently in power over an invading army.

He also misspelled Navalny’s name, as OP also did (but the article didn’t), which is even more funny since it shows how much they do know about him and are just joining the yapping chorus of western propaganda.

I said that because Navalny is a fascist scumbag and a white supremacist. If that’s the sort of people you support then you really need to check your morals.

Um… I doubt a pos would essentially give his life to speak out against the dictator.

Don’t know enough but he doesn’t seem like the kind of prick that would invade Ukraine

The headspace of “anyone is better than Putin” also means that people that are worse are praised. Someone that openly calls Muslims “cockroaches” and extreme nationalism isn’t exactly “better” than Putin’s similar stances on the LGBTQIA+ communities. So it is very possible for Navalny to be worse if given the powers Putin currently has. The real point is that it isn’t a good thing to blindly praise/support everyone that openly attacks Putin as some “hero of freedom” or something like that.
