  • Extinction Rebellion is about as much of a liberal pseudo-anarchist movement as you can get. They actually came to prominence because they would get on top of trains, block highways, etc., to stop people from going to work just to protest, thus literally putting hundreds if not thousands of people at risk of losing their jobs. Not exactly a proletarian movement if you ask me.

  • I’ve read myself some Murakami and I definitely know what you mean lol. I find sometimes he meanders way too much on certain elements of his stories without ever really pulling them together in a way that pays off, so it just ends up being another case of “this main guy meets a bunch of wacky people and hijinks ensue” without any real centering of the story. Wind Up Bird Chronicle is another book of his where this really shows. I couldn’t even finish it, it just got so tiring to read.

Then again, he can also write really well when he wants to. Norwegian Wood is an absolutely amazing book. I highly recommend it to anyone who is coming of age, especially in this generation where we’re seeing the same patterns of political culture during the 1960s, when the book takes place.

What I do appreciate about Murakami, though, is all the subtle ways he deconstructs and mocks traditional Japanese society, especially in Norwegian Wood and Wind Up Bird Chronicle, even if I didn’t enjoy the latter. He also demystifies a lot about Japan too, which is really nice.

  • Glad you have so many questions!

    1. We might do a forum on Lemmy in the future, though neither of us are particularly skilled at working with Lemmy’s code at the moment so we’re resorting to a different hosting service for now. ProBoards is a pretty good service though, as it seems that it’s only real concern is forums denying COVID-19 which isn’t a problem for us lol.
    2. We think ProBoards has the best design out of all the others we’ve come across, and has also been the easiest for us to set up. And its layout is very customizable which is good.
    3. Making and planning groups is definitely on the table for the future, but right now we’re just focused on bringing it together and making it presentable to people.

    Hope this helps!

  • Well, thank you for clearing up a lot of these misconceptions of mine, I appreciate it.

Honestly though, a lot of the stuff I was saying was just pure reaction to Enigma’s writing, and tbh the way Enigma worded a lot things (especially his talk of Putin’s NEP) was incredibly vague and thus I had no idea what he was actually referring to. If his post had been written better, my response would have almost certainly been written better as well, even with some of the things I got wrong regardless.

But I do appreciate a lot of these clarifications comrade. I still don’t think Russia is socialist but perhaps we just fundamentally disagree on certain principles of what Putin is doing. In any case, it’s good that you took the time to correct the points that I did make wrong, so thank you for that :)
