The media may be painting her as such, but this is absolutely not true. Keep in mind, MLK was an actual socialist who openly advocated civil disobedience and dismantling the systemic racism that is enabled by capitalism. Greta is nothing like this at all; comparing her in any way to MLK is a complete insult to MLK.

Comrade AppleDash@lemmygrad.mlto Comradeship // Freechat@lemmygrad.ml•How is everyone doing?0·3 years agoI’ve read myself some Murakami and I definitely know what you mean lol. I find sometimes he meanders way too much on certain elements of his stories without ever really pulling them together in a way that pays off, so it just ends up being another case of “this main guy meets a bunch of wacky people and hijinks ensue” without any real centering of the story. Wind Up Bird Chronicle is another book of his where this really shows. I couldn’t even finish it, it just got so tiring to read.
Then again, he can also write really well when he wants to. Norwegian Wood is an absolutely amazing book. I highly recommend it to anyone who is coming of age, especially in this generation where we’re seeing the same patterns of political culture during the 1960s, when the book takes place.
What I do appreciate about Murakami, though, is all the subtle ways he deconstructs and mocks traditional Japanese society, especially in Norwegian Wood and Wind Up Bird Chronicle, even if I didn’t enjoy the latter. He also demystifies a lot about Japan too, which is really nice.

- We might do a forum on Lemmy in the future, though neither of us are particularly skilled at working with Lemmy’s code at the moment so we’re resorting to a different hosting service for now. ProBoards is a pretty good service though, as it seems that it’s only real concern is forums denying COVID-19 which isn’t a problem for us lol.
- We think ProBoards has the best design out of all the others we’ve come across, and has also been the easiest for us to set up. And its layout is very customizable which is good.
- Making and planning groups is definitely on the table for the future, but right now we’re just focused on bringing it together and making it presentable to people.
Hope this helps!
Comrade AppleDash@lemmygrad.mlOPto Communism@lemmygrad.ml•Special announcement for a new project of ours!0·3 years agoIt’s not that project! This is a totally independent thing Makan and I are working on. It is still very much in its infancy and it’ll be at least a little while until we feel confident in making it publicly accessible.
Comrade AppleDash@lemmygrad.mlOPto Communism@lemmygrad.ml•Refuting the idea that Russia is socialist (response to enigma)0·3 years agoWell, thank you for clearing up a lot of these misconceptions of mine, I appreciate it.
Honestly though, a lot of the stuff I was saying was just pure reaction to Enigma’s writing, and tbh the way Enigma worded a lot things (especially his talk of Putin’s NEP) was incredibly vague and thus I had no idea what he was actually referring to. If his post had been written better, my response would have almost certainly been written better as well, even with some of the things I got wrong regardless.
But I do appreciate a lot of these clarifications comrade. I still don’t think Russia is socialist but perhaps we just fundamentally disagree on certain principles of what Putin is doing. In any case, it’s good that you took the time to correct the points that I did make wrong, so thank you for that :)

Comrade AppleDash@lemmygrad.mlto Communism@lemmygrad.ml•has the west has completly forgotten literally every major conflict and problems in the world ?0·3 years agoRemember all the climate protests in 2019? Remember how everyone was saying that the world would end unless we radically changed the way we live? Hearing any word on that now?
Remember when COVID-19 began and everyone was pushing to stay indoors? Remember when George Floyd was killed and all this “stay indoors” stuff was immediately forgotten about?
Remember how Syria is still at war?
Yeah, nobody in our neck of the woods has the most… developed memory capacity, to put it mildly.

Comrade AppleDash@lemmygrad.mlOPto Communism@lemmygrad.ml•Why Marxism-Leninism-Maoism cannot work: a response to DashRendar0·3 years agoKhrushchev saying it doesn’t automatically make it wrong.
Also, I’m pretty sure Stalin had basically the same idea with the way he rapidly industrialised the USSR. So I’m not sure why it’s suddenly bad in your eyes when Khrushchev points it out.

Comrade AppleDash@lemmygrad.mlto Communism@lemmygrad.ml•Yo dawg, the Maoists have a point ☭0·3 years agoI’m thinking of making a response post to this. I did it with Enigma’s little Russia essay and lots of people appreciated that, so maybe I should keep the ball rolling!
Comrade AppleDash@lemmygrad.mlOPto Communism@lemmygrad.ml•Refuting the idea that Russia is socialist (response to enigma)0·3 years agoYes, but if anything that just adds to my point. Putin is lying about his policy being like the NEP

Comrade AppleDash@lemmygrad.mlto Communism@lemmygrad.ml•How to reconcile critical support for Russia with Lenin's views on inter-capitalist conflict?0·3 years agoIt’s all good comrade, you’re still mostly right :)
Comrade AppleDash@lemmygrad.mlto Communism@lemmygrad.ml•How to reconcile critical support for Russia with Lenin's views on inter-capitalist conflict?0·3 years agoThat’s a little misleading to say. Yes, China has stood with Russia and the independent republics in Ukraine for the past several months as tensions have built up between Russia and NATO, however China has remained firmly neutral with regards to the invasion of Ukraine. In the recent UN General Assembly vote to condemn the invasion, China abstained from voting against or in favour. Right now they’re pretty much just waiting to see what develops in Russia, and I think they’re right to do that. Besides, China is focused on its own self-preservation more than anything else.
Comrade AppleDash@lemmygrad.mlOPto Communism@lemmygrad.ml•Refuting the idea that Russia is socialist (response to enigma)0·3 years agoI don’t know much about Tankie Bunker since I’m not a member of it, but from what I know the server has like 1,900 members or some crazy shit like that, a helluva lot of people are on that server. And I think it’s the same people who moderate it as r/InformedTankie, so it’s not a large group of mods. Honestly you’re bound to have incidents like that on a server so big with so few people in control of it.
Extinction Rebellion is about as much of a liberal pseudo-anarchist movement as you can get. They actually came to prominence because they would get on top of trains, block highways, etc., to stop people from going to work just to protest, thus literally putting hundreds if not thousands of people at risk of losing their jobs. Not exactly a proletarian movement if you ask me.
