Turns out many middle eastern toilets can’t handle toilet paper.
scratch Reddit. TIL that this is not a European thing but rather an exception for some countries only. We’re not supposed to throw toilet paper in the toilet in Greece either, oh well

right?! To be honest I was almost certain it would bore me pretty fast, but I was pleasantly surprised and found myself intrigued from start to finish. Everything about it is great!
I forgot Lemmy users can’t see who upvoted/downvoted something (votes are still visible in Kbin)
I’ve noticed there are people who just spam with downvotes for no reason (downvoting a certain community’s posts, downvoting all comments under a post, downvoting all posts/comments made by someone they may not like etc), it’s pretty weird
He named Teslas models (in order of release) S, 3, X
that’s the corniest thing ever omg…
okay but why in the world would he rename it, what could he possibly gain from doing it? Twitter was going to die either ways but it seems Elon is getting impatient and wants to see it dead sooner
right, Opera GX is the one Im using, maybe I should have mentioned it. After reading all the comments I decided to check Firefox and Vivaldi out
Thoraya’s yt channel has been one of my faves for years now. She basically asks questions and such to stranger on the streets, I love hearing about peoples’ experiences, thoughts, life stories etc
I also enjoy EXPLORE WITH US’ content, it’s a yt channel focused on true crime, unsolved cases etc. The majority of their videos include clips in the interrogation room that are being analysed, it’s super interesting
I use Kbin less, possibly due to a lower amount of content, but I surely use it way more deliberately
My mom was my 1st and 2nd grade teacher (admittedly a great one) and I feel like this helped me understand how my native language works pretty fast, as she’d motivate me to study and thoroughly help me out whenever I needed/wanted to. I was also into reading books so that helped me advance my vocabulary a lot. Now, as an adult, I believe I speak the language better than the average person in my age range but I may be lacking in more advanced vocabulary.
As far as English goes, I started learning at the age of 7 (we typically start learning it in third grade) but it was hideous as I could barely understand or memorize anything. The thing that helped me tremendously was listening to music, reading the lyrics and translating them into Greek. Also, I think the fact my mother tongue is Greek helped me learn English vocab faster/easier to be honest. Moreover, I started talking with a bunch of people whose native language is English during my early teen years which helped me advance a lot. My English is still nowhere near perfect but I’d like to think I’m fairly good at it haha
Reading books, watching movies/series with English subtitles and communicating with native speakers are all great ways to improve your skills in English
same here, sometimes it happens when I’m trying to upvote posts as well
there are a handful of communities related to Reddit (which is fine imo), so I really don’t get why some people post Reddit related posts in random/unrelated communities (like this one) and bother people who don’t want to hear anything about it
Apart from the fact we shouldn’t bring them any traction, I’m not sure if that’s the best way to advertise Lemmy. I mean, I think a big percentage of redditors have already heard of the threadiverse and they still choose to stay on Reddit for whatever reason. So a plain “join Lemmy” sign would probably seem like another annoying ad to them.
I think the best way to advertise the threadiverse is by sharing the content that’s being created here and actually explaining/showing why it’s a great platform to use. The more we do that and the more Reddit keeps pissing people off with their dumb updates and everything, the more people will end up checking the threadiverse out and hopefully joining it.
This was discussed a while ago; here’s what Ernest said about it:
With additional tools for moderators, a system for taking over abandoned magazines will be created. I want to automate this, but it will take some time. I am in the process of finalizing the last formalities. I will soon post a status update.
I came up with it when I created my second acc on Reddit; I didn’t want to spend time thinking of a username so I just thought of the first two words that described my mood at the time and went with it. It means “melancholic potato”, I like how dumb it sounds
