There is no physical company. I can’t eat Microsoft any more than I can eat a Bitcoin, as much as I might want to.

I never knew prescriptions were country dependent- What differs?
My response is similar, usually the good old ‘Do you shut the door when you shit?’.
When we start getting specific, I’ll often try and frame data harvesting in a much more visceral way. If they say they don’t care that xyz keeps track of everyone they talk to, I ask them to imagine an actual person standing behind them, making notes on a clipboard about every interaction they have with someone, and how that would make them feel.
gazter@aussie.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My dearest Lemmy, what is the appliance you have the most beef with?3·6 days agoYou could get your thermostat checked. Depending on the stove, it’s something you could probably do yourself. It’s like a ten dollar part, maybe?
gazter@aussie.zoneto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Czech climber Adam Ondra climbing El Capitán in Yosemite National Park7·7 days agoI don’t think any of the climbers I know would call it an adrenaline sport. It’s slow, considered, thoughtful. It certainly gets a high sometimes, pun intended, but it’s much more akin to a runners high or the elation of finishing a difficult task well.
I agree there is an obfuscation of what is happening under the hood in Windows and Mac systems- but that doesn’t stop the tech savvy from digging a bit further. I played around with resource files back in my System 6, 7, and 8 days, and got pretty comfortable with registry edits from Windows 95 onwards.
I think it’s more that Linux only appeals to the tech savvy, precisely because of the lack of that obfuscation layer.

Windshields, for one.
Do a good wash, and wax. Wax is a protective coating- do this every few months and it makes cleaning quick and easy, as well as protecting the paint. Every time you do it it’s like putting money in the bank, a car with good paint looks like a nice car, and people pay more money for a nice car.
Buy a little bottle of rain-x. Read the instructions. Do them twice for the first go. It makes an insane difference for your vision when driving in the rain, and driving in the rain is when you really need to see.
Learn how to change a tyre before you need to do it. Figure out how the jack works, and where you need to put it under the car so you don’t damage anything.
Don’t trust your drunk self. The cost of a taxi home and back to your car the next day is way, way less than the cost of having to live with the fact that you are responsible for the death of someone’s child. Don’t give a shit if you feel fine. Give your keys to the barman if you when think you might try and drive.

gazter@aussie.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a food combination that goes surprisingly well together?3·15 days agoI can’t imagine this working as well with anything other than poached, but I can confirm it’s a winner like that. It’s a more ‘even’ substitute for salt, I guess?
gazter@aussie.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a food combination that goes surprisingly well together?5·15 days ago50/50 Guinness and cola. It’s called a Black Velvet and is indulgent and lovely.
Check out the local gym anyway- you’d be surprised how many people are there packing a bit of extra weight. There’s also a high likelihood they’ll have some basic gym equipment, so you get a bit of a two-for-one deal in that regard. It’s also way easier to meet and chat with people than your typical gym.
gazter@aussie.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some things people think are cool but really arent?7·21 days agoMy pet peeve is people cycling with a helmet but not doing it up. It’s so blatantly stupid- you get none of the benefits, and all of the negatives.
gazter@aussie.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it a complement or an insult to recreate your significant other using AI porn?2·24 days agoOk I lost respect for you when you said ‘reading and righting’ but that line right there gained it all back and then some, well done!
Cycling helmets should not be mandated. If someone is dumb enough to cycle without one, that’s on them.
I believe significantly more people would cycle if helmets were not required by law.
The natural extension of this is that everyone should live in one big megacity. Is this what you want?

The way I understand it, a physical asset is something you can see and touch, like a house or a hammer. There’s things that a share gives me that BTC does not, but ultimately they are more similar to each other than to something like a physical chunk of gold or a silo full of grain.
