After installing pacman packages (last one was ‘ungoogled-chromium’) my root partition of 20GB is completly full. Now I can’t update new packages.

My partition structure is: root (20GB) /home (470GB) swap (10GB)

How can I delete the garbage that is piling up in my root, and how to prevent it from happening again.

    Yah, it saves everything it downloads in /var/cache/pacman. The fact it does so allows you to fix things that broke when you upgraded them by downgrading from old archives - especially when one of the things that broke was your network connection, or something that prevents you from finding and downloading a previous version from online.

    Anyway, that’s why Arch hoards files; you just have to clean them up occasionally.

    I have a huge root partition and am pretty laissez faire about installing stuff; mine’s at 35GB and I consider that pretty bloated. Whatchu got installed there, buddy? In any case it sounds like your root isn’t big enough. Did you happen to RAID it so you could add space later?
