Washington, DC ā€“ Vice President Kamala Harris says she will ā€œnot be silentā€ in the face of Palestinian suffering, as Israelā€™s war in Gaza rages on.

But Palestinian rights advocates want to know exactly what that means for United States foreign policy.

The vice president ā€” and the Democratsā€™ likely nominee for the presidency ā€” emphasised the plight of Palestinians in Gaza after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday. Nevertheless, she pledged ongoing support for Israel.

Activists say expressing sympathy for Palestinians without pursuing a meaningful shift away from the USā€™s policy of unconditional military and diplomatic support will not help Harris win back voters alienated by President Joe Bidenā€™s approach to the war.

ā€œWithout an actual commitment to stop killing the children of Gaza, I donā€™t care about her empathy for them,ā€ said Eman Abdelhadi, a sociologist at the University of Chicago. She stressed that the US bears ā€œresponsibilityā€ for the atrocities committed against Palestinians.

ā€œTo be empathetic to someone that youā€™re shooting in the head is not exactly laudable. We donā€™t need empathy from these people. We need them to stop providing the weapons and the money that is actively killing the people that theyā€™re supposedly empathising with.ā€

    Basically same difference.

It was a preliminary ruling. Thatā€™s the closest to ā€œdefinitely committing genocideā€ you can get in a preliminary ruling.

I wonder what your deflection will be when the ICJ warrants are granted and Netanyahu canā€™t go to most of the world without being arrestedā€¦

No, all it states is there are grounds to investigate. That is how law works. Innocent until guilty. They would have convicted by now had the evidence been as cut and dry as you think it is.

Guilty? Good. Arrest them. Until then due process is paramount in a civilized society that doesnā€™t execute people for being gay or trans.

Bullshit. ā€œGrounds to investigateā€ doesnā€™t come with orders.

That is how law works. Innocent until guilty

Theyā€™ve been proven guilty again and again for 75 years. That the US keep vetoing every resolution doesnā€™t make the fascist apartheid regime innocent.

They would have convicted by now had the evidence been as cut and dry as you think it is.

No. As alluded to above, thereā€™s a shitload of pressure from the likes of the US to never hold Israel accountable for their countless atrocities.

        Guilty? Good. Arrest them.

You canā€™t be this fucking obtuse. You literally canā€™t think that itā€™s that simple. šŸ¤¦

Until then due process is paramount

Whereā€™s the due process for the 200k Gazans Israel has killed since October, most of whom were innocent civilians?

execute people for being gay or trans.

Israel kills a LOT more gay and trans Gazans than Hamas does. Also, itā€™s not very LGBTQ+ friendly to blackmail LGBTQ Palestinians into informing on their neighbors

I wonā€™t reciprocate your personal attacks. Perpetual revenge isnā€™t my kink. Iā€™ll just leave your comment there as a monument to your sideā€™s ability to see reason, seek and accept true justice, and not excuse reprehensible behaviour with false tu quoques.

            Perpetual revenge isnā€™t my kink.

I guess you just back the world champions of oppression and disproportionate retribution for nonsexual reasons, then. Thatā€™s slightly better, I guess šŸ¤·

Iā€™ll just leave your comment there as a monument to your sideā€™s ability to see reason

Your version of ā€œseeing reasonā€ is genocide denial. Stop trying to gaslight me with your Hasbara nonsense, please.

            seek and accept true justice

            Thatā€™s exactly what Iā€™m doing ffs šŸ¤¦

            not excuse reprehensible behaviour

Such as genocide with a side of deliberately targeting aid workers, healthcare workers and journalists trying to show the world whatā€™s happening? This you?
