I recently joined a local neighborhood group page on fb, and after that I decided to scroll through my feed of friends’ activity. It was the worst user experience I’ve had on social media in a while and I used to use the official reddit app for two years until recently switching to Infinity. They make promoted and “suggested” content look like the actual content by people on your friends list so I have to constantly check where the content was coming from. There’s no way to turn off the suggestions either.
Getting rid of Facebook/twitter was the most effective self care I’ve ever done.
That said winding chauvinistic boomers up in local neighbourhood groups was kinda fun.
Just deleted Twitter, hoping the anxiety subsides a little.
Yeah Twitter is the most insidiously toxic POS website. Everybody just trying to outsmug clever dunk each other, it disgusted me but was also terribly addictive, fuck that place.
Unless you’re subscribed to people who never talk politics and don’t fight with others I could see Twitter being acceptable. The last time I went on Twitter I saw the pure sewage that was spewing from everyone, audibly groaned, and then closed the browser.
I’ve only managed to make it bareable by unfollowing almost every account except for @depthsofwikipedia
For me it took a few weeks for the itch and anxiety to disappear but give it a month and you’ll forget you ever had it 😊
True. Haven’t used it in years, because the content is just straight garbage. Reddit and Twitter comments are unhinged and mostly low quality, but there’s some value there occasionally. Facebook even years ago was just the lowest of the low, most ignorant and straight up stupid, racist, reactionary boomer fucks. And because pretty much everyone I know has stopped posting there a long time ago, it is nothing but clickbait headlines and infuriating boomer comments anymore.
Yeah, at least on reddit there are subreddits that cater to things I’m interested in and I can get good information from.
I feel like a techy hipster for saying this but fb is simply too easy to use. That’s why boomers use it. Reddit and especially Lemmy require you to navigate a more complex UX.
I would delete my FB account but it would require me to log into my FB account so I’m stuck just ignoring it’s existence.
This is basically the only social media I use anymore except YouTube and occasionally Tumblr. I try to post occasionally elsewhere cuz “brand” ☆retches☆ but I hate it. Twitter and Facebook were always my least favorites.
I deleted FB about a year ago and it significantly improved my life.
