    For me, better call saul>Breaking bad

    I think for me it’s just…one of those things, I just gel with one program more than the other.

    With all that said, first 5 seasons of the simpsons greater than all other television and I’m not kidding lol

    Great entertainment, ok class analysis.

    As a story its great, but it could be better.

    The police are far too sanatized in the show imo, in reality they are the instruments of oppression through the drug war which are utilized by the state to opress and imprison black working class and white unemployed, it is inherently political but the show never even tries to show that side of reality; its just cops versus the ‘bad’ (walter, jesse) guys, and the more violent ‘other’ bad guys from shudders south of the border.

    The wire understood this better and had a far more critical and nuanced take on americas drug war than BB/BCS, and I say that as someone who likes the latter in terms of entertainment more; the wire is better written and more sociological and closer to the truth of what the drug war in america represents; Id almost see BCS/BB as a regression slightly on that narrative which seems to emphasize the evil drug dealer and the white knight cop more.

    I liked breaking bad a lot, very entertaining and solid acting. iirc the last season felt a little forced in making walter go far off the deep end, but it was still a great season.

    A left analysis of the show might be a bunch of people dealing with late capitalist alienation and crumbling physical and mental health infrastructure, as well as a critical look at the drug trade and drug law enforcement.

    Better call saul is slow, but more focused on the antics that the characters get up to. Breaking bad is just flat out great as well. Watch em both!

    It is refreshing to see overall growth and change of subject. Really shows how a good artist can make use of same characters in really different circumstances for very different purposes.
