    My theory why that happens with some ceramics plates is that the glazing is damaged and it got soaked with water.

      That’s interesting. I have a hodgepodge of plates and bowls. Some of them get insanely hot and some are fine. Maybe I will find cracks in the ones that get hot.

    Use plates that do not get hot in a microwave. It’s not the microwave you hate. It’s using plates that get hot.

    Sadly, you have to find out. It’s typically not marked on the package if the product gets hot in a microwave.

    Put it on a paper towel. Ifthere’scracksi in your plate it will get moisture in there and that will get hot when microwaving.
