As an employee of a neutral newspaper Washington Post, I would just like to loudly say that WE ARE PROFITING FROM THIS WAR, THAT IS WHY THIS WAR IS GOOD.
germany rediscovered its values
oh shit oh fuck
I thought dog whistles were supposed to be silent
Sad lol
The Values: https://archive.is/JpgOk
What the fuck are they even trying to refer to
I know it’s funny to say lol Nazis but I feel like that’s not what they were actually going for
the values are buying energy from america instead of russia
“Germany has weaned itself from dependence on Russian energy and, in many ways, rediscovered its sense of values”
Jesus Christ in light of what we know about Nordstream this is Mafia shit
(other than for the Ukrainians)
Literally ghouls
The Lovecraftian kind, not the Fallout kind
The Ukrainian deaths are a parenthetical to these people. And they call us the fascists.
Liberals who stumble blindly into this thread over the next hours and days. Yeah, you. This is you. This is what you do
Stop it
Aww, the Lovecraft Ghouls are (mostly) just our misunderstood corpse eating relatives. They don’t wanna bother us unripened fruits, and actually killing us is heresy.
(but I’m probably mixing in a lot of Delta Green’s Mythos lore here)
you know what ghouls in the arabic sense of a shapeshifting thieving monster that eats corpses
Ah yes, the ghul
You think the slavi ukrani people will read this and maybe figure out they’re being duped or do you think they would just scold WaPo for being too cynical about the brave troops?
Nah, the vast majority of them already believe what WaPo believes, they just don’t want to appear rude by saying it out loud. If they cared about Ukrainians, they would be mad at NATO for killing the Ukraine-Russia deal that was made very early into the war and where Ukraine would not lose any territory, but would only have to promise not to ever join NATO.
I forgot, when did Putin join NATO?
Lovely_sombrero is talking about the April deal spiked by Boris Johnson’s visit, this article is alleging a deal in late Feb/early March
Oh, when Russia would have had to withdraw to its position on February 23 and therefore Ukraine would sacrifice Donbas and Crimea and hand wave away a bunch of war crimes in exchange for not joining NATO.
Seems like a real balanced solution.
The battle lines have not really moved very much, after 500,000 Ukrainian casualties. Was it worth it?
Sure it’s been worth it, the US has weakened Russia at a relatively low cost (other than for the Ukrainians).
Have they really though? Can you really “weaken” a nuclear power?
Embarrass, yes. Cause a loss of prestige? Of course, but they’re still a nuclear power and that’s never going to change.
Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union, in the 90s they still had a seat at the table in the UN security council and had a say in their sphere of influence. They still had a sphere of influence.
That number is the estimated combined Russian and Ukrainian wounded and casualties. Try to actually be informed instead of parroting tankie talking points comrade.
Set aside whose casualties are whose and look at the loss of life and disfigurements. Was it worth it? Neither side has made any significant military gains since the spring that justifies these casualty numbers
Sorry tankies, people dying in war is actually good
tankie
Ukraine sacrificing Crimea? What a cruel thing to make them do, give up land that they’ve had no control over for almost a decade.
Cool, so about ten years after illegal occupation and seizure you’re cool with the rationale of “no takesie backsies” and you still believe Putin will actually stop there.
Have I got a bridge to sell you.
lol illegal occupation and seizure of land whose residents were begging for Russia to help them?
inb4 but muh Ukrainian sovereignty!!!
“Illegal occupation” dude shut the fuck up, the maiden coup goverment was illegal and there’s a reason western media doesn’t bring up the Crimean referendum
Crimeans spoke loud and clear, they are not Ukrainian, they don’t want to be Ukrainian and they sure as shit don’t want their region torn apart by a bunch of nazi banderites
The fact you think Crimea is even up for discussion shows just how ignorant and remote you are from this conflict, read anything besides CNN articles you fascist waterholder
What are your thoughts on South Korea, Taiwan, and (former) South Vietnam? Edit: also Israel
Are you surprised that years of genocide in the Donbas came with a cost?
I think you greatly overvestimate Ukraine libs of you think they’d care about this
Ukrainians I’ve talked to actually don’t give too much of a shit about this. Their point of view is very simple: fight the invaders. Anybody who’ll provide the means of doing so is useful, but they don’t give that much of a fuck about the US pov.

Germany hasn’t weaned itself off Russian gas though.
Germany muddled through last year’s preternaturally warm winter, as the government provided generous energy subsidies for homes and businesses. But since then, the lack of Russian gas has been the major factor in rising energy costs that have led to a slowdown in the German economy, the fourth largest in the world.

Yes.
For Turkey: https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20220106-russia-turkey-energy-companies-sign-four-year-gas-deal/
India seems to be concerning itself with oil rather than gas. Searching it brings up multiple articles about India importing a lot more oil from Russia than usual, with European oil imports from India also increasing. No article I’ve found admits it outright but it’s easy to see what’s going on.
I wouldn’t be surprised. Seymour Hersh had a tidbit about how Germany would sell excess gas from the pipeline to other European countries at a premium, when they didn’t use as much as their agreement with Russia had them take delivery for
Germany has weaned itself from its dependence on Russian energy
you mean they had their energy infrastructure bombed because they bought from the wrong supplier
And so they shut down nuclear plants and fired up giant steam punk leviathans to eat wind farms and shit out coal.
It’s crazy cuz even most libs at this point end up defaulting to “yea we know it’s a proxy war and that’s a good thing”.
hey fellas is it a good look if we just handwave away all the people thrown into a metaphorical woodchipper or should I contrive the flimsiest facade of human decency, asking
for a friendon behalf of a heartless sociopath of a journalist to whom the question will never occurI remember a couple years back reading a post from some liberal talking about how “Cold War Russia was just an empire and if it actually went to war with NATO, it would’ve just used the other Warsaw Pact members as cannon fodder”
All projection all the time
Caitlin Johnstone has a nice writeup that includes this quote here.

Actually you’re a tankie if you mention that NATO is feeding every Ukrainian into a blender for its own ends.
I was gonna say love how were the bad guys, according to people with a subscription to the paper talking about how great of an investment that giant pile of Ukrainian bodies is.
You’re a tankie if you sometimes say that the war is profitable for NATO, and sometimes say any mention of NATO doing well is western propoganda lies, and Russia is the real winner.
If you can’t stick to a consistent and logically coherent explanation, then you live in a dream word.
