it’s a bit surreal to see people with hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers dip their toes in FedIverse. I’ve just learned that I’ve Pet That Dog account has joined Mastodon, which significantly increases my feed’s pup percentage.
I found Mastadon because of the twitter buzz, but wasn’t actually using twitter before trying Mastadon. Then from Mastodon, I just learned about Lemmy. It is exciting to see this Fediverse thing grow and happen!
It is exciting to see these federated systems working together. FYI You could also search @technology@beehaw.org and add it as an account on mastodon.
Welcome!
Welcome. I hope you have many years of enjoyment here.
What worries me is that a lot of people from Twitter come to Mastodon for the wrong reasons. They are looking for a Twitter alternative that is free (as in free beer) and does the same as Twitter. And although Mastodon on the surface might look the same as Twitter it’s community is very different consisting of a diverse group of people that understand the philosophy of the Fediverse.
I think there’s just reasons. I hope at least it can show that there are alternatives to the walled gardens, and with an increase in user demand there are more avenues for managed hosting to allow people to run their own services.

It’s gotten really weird on Mastodon and such. Today I spent more time on Lemmy than on my Mastodon account because by now there’s so much “stupidity” flushed through the timelines that I feel like I’m on Twitter.
The influx validates a lot of peoples effort and like lemmy everyone contribution is welcome but it has helped me to consider how I might filter things to suit.
Who are you to dictate what reason to join is right or wrong?
I’m not dictating anything. I’m not Elon Musk.
