I’m getting completely sick of inanimate objects and concepts blasting and slamming people. It’s always Country X Slams Y, or building X blasts Y.
What’s wrong with Andrew Bates criticizing Elon Musk. Why do we sum these people up to a point they become shadows behind a larger concept?
The White House is a building filled with people and opinions. It doesn’t blast shit, shut the hell up. No take away from the content here. I’m just fed up with click bait and hearing that whole countries have a unified voice, going around slamming things everytime some asshole says something about another asshole just because the media needs to put a more famous face behind it to give it a bit more oomf.
Apologies for the rant, but I find it all very misleading and rather annoying. The amount of times a country of 300 million people has blasted some dude without consulting with said 300 million people is upsetting.
Having said that, Musk is a cunt. But I say that, not Lemmy. Lol.
Lemmy SLAMS cnbc
Lemmy user u/PotjiePig viciously disembowels and subsequently consumes the entrails of modern media language!
What’s wrong with Andrew Bates criticizing Elon Musk.
Because White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates is not speaking for himself, he’s speaking for the institution of the White House as part of his job. Your rant is totally out of place here.
I think their broader point is still valid, which is that clickbaity “blasts” is fucking annoying regardless
Then it’s “White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates criticizing Musk” or Biden through him. Just because he’s an important part of a spin squad doesn’t mean he’s a building.
He’s. Not. Speaking. For. Himself. He’s reading a statement that was crafted by a team of people and approved by another team of people because he’s speaking for the administration. “The White House” isn’t referring a building in this context, it’s a metonymy for the Biden Administration as an institution.
We desperately need media literacy education.
I know perfectly well what they meant.
My point is that it’s a crappy metonymy that should be retired along with many others that only serve to muddy the waters as to who exactly said what on behalf of whom.
Disagreeing with the use of lazy and sometimes misleading language commonly used by hacks ≠ media illiteracy.
Your way of saying it is what would be muddying the waters as it posits the criticism as coming from the individual who is relaying the message which is not the case
Then use your words to SAY who the origin is! Don’t just use a vague catchall for “probably the president but could be anyone in the building”.
Better yet; ask the messenger who the message is specifically from and then talk with THAT person in stead of this mealy mouthed pretense.
I’ve had it up to here 🫡 with the media pretending that organisations and building are persons with unified opinions just because the bosses and middle men want denyability.
Journalism is dead and capitalism killed it
And why is it always a slam when wrestling has so many other moves? “White House Suplexes Musk” “Trump Power Bombs DeSantis From The Top Rope” At least be creative with it.
“Musk Hit With Chair” sounds great to me.
„So I started blasting”
- the White House, probably
“Potjie Pig Blasts CNBC For Promoting ‘Blasting’ And ‘Slamming’”
Damn this reminded me to think for a second before adopting or endorsing this. Thank dude
Synecdoche
It’s like an old Batman TV episode.

slamming and then blasting is basically me every night before bed.
These entities exist specifically to minimize the risks to those comprising them. The problem is that these entities are allowed to exist in the first place. You want sell vegetables? Cool. You want to sell vegetables coated in poison? Well then you should suffer the consequences, not be shielded behind a legal entity and able to gain the size and power to legalize your poison.
These entities exist specifically to minimize the risks to those comprising them.
You have completely made things up. This entity exists because of the logistical difficulties of one person running a branch of government.
I was referring to the corporate ones, not the government ones.
The government ones are there of course to consolidate power amongst the most successful psychopaths.
So you’re taking away his subsidies, right?

He’ll be rewarded with a government subsidy nonetheless.
Good for the White House. What he did was not acceptable.
I mean, on the one hand, it’s good that it’s said. It should be said.
On the other, none of the people who need to comprehend this care.
The board at Tesla cannot be happy about this.
That’ll fix it for sure. Every blast and slam have provenly moved the needle to the positive.
The funny part tho is that Elon said he’s going to file a thermonuclear lawsuit on every entity involved in the “smear” so apparently that includes the White House. Good luck with that, dude.
He actually said that?
Does that not sound exactly like the kind of dumb shit he would say?
You know how he is, the White House had something to say about it, so obviously they’re involved too.
People want to compare him to Tony Stark, but really he is just a 2 bit Wernher Von Braun.
No. Wernher von Braun was a brilliant scientist who worked for fascists, possibly under duress.
Musk is an idiot savant manchild taking the credit for the work of others and voluntarily cooperating with fascists and other bad actors to benefit his own ego and wallet.
Idiot (99%) savant (1%)
Yep and like Trump, the 1% savant lies in self-promotion and otherwise conning rubes, not anything that’s useful to the world in any way.
I was speaking of the nazi aspects of them both.
And I was pointing out that Musk is no scientist and, unlike von Braun, we KNOW that he’s working with the nazis and other fascists on purpose even though he doesn’t have to.
You really think that he was working under duress with the nazis?
I don’t know for sure, of course, but from what I’ve read about him it seems like he was just a scientist and harbored no fascist political views.
He wanted to build rockets for space exploration and was drafted into the war effort. The degree to which he was forced is unknown, but the nazis weren’t exactlt known for their gentle methods of persuasion.
Given the scientists that made it out of Germany, it seems a little suspect, but I suppose we will never know for sure. I get wanting to pursue your life’s passion, but forced or not, he assisted one of the worst regimes this world has ever known and his knowledge directly lead to the deaths of many people. Ultimately does it really matter what he believed if through his actions he aided the nazis anyway?
but forced or not
Ultimately does it really matter
Hell yeah it does! If von Braun had no ability to refuse, there’s no fucking way he was anywhere near as bad as Musk.
Musk who’s one of the richest and most powerful people in the world and as a result can do almost literally whatever he wants.
Musk who, despite widespread condemnation, continues to insist that it’s not just okay to enable abuse and stochastic terrorism, it’s his duty and makes him a hero of the people 🤦
Eh Braun was in the party and never attempted to defect until his side had lost. He prioritized physics over politics sure, but he didn’t try to minimize the suffering his employers caused. At best he was an apolitical developer of arms for Nazi Germany who used concentration camp labor to do it.
never attempted to defect
How do you know?Did he ever have the opportunity to do so? The nazis probably kept him under 24/7 armed surveillance.
didn’t try to minimize the suffering his employers caused
Same question.
At best he was an apolitical developer of arms for Nazi Germany who used concentration camp labor to do it.
No, at best he was a slave himself, just with more privileges. Like how in US chattel slavery house slaves had more privileges than field slaves but still had no freedom, rights or ability to make their own choices.
In contrast, Musk has all the rights, privileges and freedom in the world and he’s voluntarily using it to aid fascists and other monsters while pretending that it’s a heroic thing to do.
Because he had every reason to make all the claims he wanted and didn’t. Operation paperclip would’ve cleared his name if he had put up a reasonable farce of it.
And I know because a lot of researchers on the American side were German and Italian defectors who left when fascists started gaining power. Werner von Braun wouldn’t’ve been subject to quotas or anything like that as a leading rocket scientist.
