With gaming often bringing me into a really depressive headspace sometimes with how the markets are developing, whats a game you can always go to and just be lost in, or just be happy with?
Personally i would go for advance wars 1 and 2 on the gba (there is no remake and never will be)
the artstyle, the music, the game-play is just simple, yet effective, a sublime experience of very fun times.
Whats yours?
Kind of hoping someone comes in and says “have you heard about x game that’s super similar DA:O” and that I haven’t heard of it, cause I agree with you and I’d love to have that experience again fresh.
I have that feeling with Factorio. What I wouldn’t give to be able to experience it again for the first time. Mods are great for extending the enjoyment and all, but to just “land,” have to figure shit out and wonder where the week went would be sublime.
Pillars of Eternity was a game that, to me, felt similar to DA:O. Not everyone shares the sentiment, but if you haven’t heard of it, I’d recommend at least watching a review of it.
I actually did play Pillars of Eternity and was quite fond of it, except that I eventually had to give it up because I reeeaaalllly suck at the real-time-with-pause combat at that scale, and I just got stuck.
Months later it dawned on me that I could have just dropped the difficulty level, but I had forgotten too much about what was going on and couldn’t get back into it.
The story can be convoluted, admittedly. Pillars of Eternity II added a dedicated turn-based mode for the combat and also added a few QoL changes, my favorite being that spell usage is reset between combat, rather than requiring you to rest. That said, I think the story is a bit weaker, but that may be because I’ve never really been interested in Caribbean settings or pirate themes.
People always tell me Divinity, but it feels like a different kind of game to me.
