I requested my data the other day too. I haven’t heard anything yet, which makes me wonder if they will actually do it, because I’m sure they got a ton of requests at this point. I’m hoping to get that before I pull the plug completely.
It’s more like, how long is my patience, because I expect they have an unusually high number of data requests to sift through. I’m in the US, so I can’t really claim GDPR anyway, right? Not that I know much about it in the first place.
What’s the benefit in requesting your data? I tend to periodically nuke my Reddit accounts and cycle through usernames and I’ve never thought to save anything.
The only reason I stuck with Reddit was because of Apollo. I’ve just requested my data, hopefully I can get to grips with Lemmy!

They kind of have to don’t they? This is a GDPR thing, right?

How would they know that except by putting in the manual work to find out? It’s easier to just come up with a process to do it for anyone who asks.
The request form asks the reason. I didn’t feel right selecting gdpr when it doesn’t apply to me. I might regret that later, but 🤷
