what if
elf VietnamOh fuck, they’re in the trees
Even there you still hear Fortunate Son playing on a loop.
Elftunate Son
Someone just watched Gate.
Best anime. I like the part where dragons get obliterated by missiles and tank shells.
Well, that was an intriguing sentence. I’ll have to check this out.
That sentence only applies to the first episode. The rest of the series is an overly jingoistic power fantasy where the MC goes around collecting waifus for his harem and the japanese army exports
democracyjapanese culture.Yeah the anime is pretty garbage outside of the pilot. You’d think you’d get interesting conflicts of fantasy powers vs modern military but nah
I watched an episode and said, “Oh, I’m not the target audience, a teenaged Japanese child who is malleable enough to be tricked into joining the JDF.”
The idea of a modern soldier going to a fantasy world and getting a “harem” sounds like a propagandized retelling of a war crime.
Imperial Princess Piña Co Lada
Go home author, you are drunk.
Summoning Japan is still kinda power fantasy, but it’s much more focused on the world itself rather than any specific characters. It’s also consistently REALLY good. It’s still running, but there’s quite a bit already out before you have to wait.
Manifest Fantasy is a similar premise to GATE but much better, though is still an early Work In Progress; it too is REALLY good so far (there’s five chapters out so far AFAIK)
Then there’s Summoning America, written by the translators of Summoning Japan. I haven’t read it but I’ve heard good things about it.
Well they did say it was an anime
Japanese army exporting japanese culture into a fantasy land that’s heavily influenced by their own culture… Sounds like 'murica invading bri’ain or something
Damn, sad.
The anime is not TOO bad, but i’ve been firmly told to stay the fuck away from the original sources. I wish we had a more grounded one though.
Reign of Fire. Christian Bale, Matthew Mccaughey, and A109 helicopters vs dragons.
P-51 Dragon Fighter: a WWII movie with Nazi dragons, a surprisingly manageable romance subplot and a ‘final boss’ stolen from Ace Combat 04, starring a whole bunch of people we’ve never heard of because their careers peaked in this work of art.
Eh? The dragons getting shot with missiles and tanks is episode 17. There are waifus and stuff of course but there is even more fantasy world tropes getting smacked down by modern tech.
I’ve heard it described as “Japan in Civilization playing for a domination victory”
How do we know elves won’t refine gunpowder weaponry first in their quest for ever greater ranges and precision? Maybe precisely engineered gyro stabilized rocket propelled ‘arrows’ is the path elves take, vs the humans big boom slow heavy artillery?
Gunpowder is dirty and requires mining, which would mean talking to dwarves
Maybe sugar rockets then?
Sugar dust is VERY combustible.
Sugar refining is grody
Maybe precisely engineered gyro stabilized rocket propelled ‘arrows’ is the path elves take
That sounds more like a gnome thing.
Kobolds would invent the Hwatcha to counter this
*an
This is how Frieren feels
Don’t complain if your whole platoon gets perfectly sniped with arrows before you can load your artillery.
Humans breed like mad. We got other platoons.
Fair.
