“You know and I know it’s the toughest, most efficient, most effective border security bill this country’s ever seen,” Biden said. “So instead of playing politics with the issue, why don’t we just get together and get it done?”

Biden touted the bipartisan border bill as “a win for the American people,” calling it a “truly bipartisan initiative.” He called on the Senate to reconsider the bill, asking senators to “set politics aside” and for House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., to put the bill on the floor.

“We need to act,” Biden said, adding that Republicans in Congress needed to “show a little spine.”

Because Trump wins as long as you don’t “get it done”. Stop acting like the turnip is a rational actor motivated by what’s best for the country. He’s not.

Also… we don’t need “tough” border control. We need more immigration judges and resources for courts so they can process people faster, get immigrants and migrants seeking asylum processed and legal faster; so they’re in and out of the system and productive members. we need a legal and effecient path to citizenship. (or at least, green cards/work visas.)

Regular voters hear headlines like “Millions Illegally Crossed” and “Undocumented Crime Wave”; they naturally blame Biden because he’s an incumbent. The recent Gallup polls are alarming.

Biden should have focused American businesses that hired illegals, not punishing migrants for wanting a better life. Trump along with many GOP donors have hired illegals in the past, go after them and you win the debate.

that’s a pretty niave take. And to be honest, pretty typically american.

Climate Change is an existential threat to our country. but because it’s more than the next election cycle out, it’s being treated like it’s just going to make for a few hot summers or something. The reality is, as the climate changes it will excacerbate literally every issue we’re now facing. (and it will change. we’re well past the point of no-change; we’re not to the point of total collapse, yet.)

You think the migrant crisis is bad now? just wait until Mexico and Texas start looking like the Sahara. you think food is expensive now? wait until the bees die off. or the bananas start dying out because of a disease… because they’re all clones. You think COVID was bad? wait 'till some super bug thaws out of the permafrost.

I want fucking healthcare and I already live in a police state, I don’t know why anybody thinks gatekeeping migrants from living here is a magical fix to America’s problems- a giant wall across mexico just makes us all less free and I fully 100% believe these policies are all about giving the state more control at the end of the day.

Biden s comments give trump legitimacy because he’s saying it’s one of the largest issues facing America…

        When it’s not.

And the majority of Dem voters understand that.

So this hurts Biden, and doesn’t do a damn thing but help trump because it makes it look like Biden agrees with him after Dems just spent 7 years saying Trump was horrible for this and lying about how big of an issue it is.

Some voters may be stupid enough not to put all that together. But they’re the ones that show up and vote the same every election with zero thought about it.

It doesn’t hurt Biden at all. It won’t change the opinions of anyone planning to vote for him.

The only thing it will do is cause further division on the right. A right-winger now has to choose whether being anti-immigration or anti-Biden is more important.

Dem voters are not Republican voters.

There is a shit ton of human variation and just because some stupid shit work on republicans, doesn’t mean it will work on everyone.

If it did, we’d all be republicans.

That’s a very basic piece of human psychology. Unfortunately it’s a young field and the people in their 70s and up running the Dem party we’re already middle aged and done learning before we figured it out and proved it with research

One of the many many reasons we shouldn’t be trusting wealthy geriatric people to run our nation.

Have a bit of a working hypothesis that current GOP and DNC is built around seeing if America is ready for fascism or not yet. If Trump wins, there you go… But the DNC really is starting to look like how the states viewed the GOP before the upfront radicalization in 2016.

I suspect if Biden wins, the GOP will become irrelevant over the next 4 years, and the DNC will fracture into two parties. One that represents the previous GOP, and one that represents the previous DNC with the status quo not changing.

      Takes tinfoil hat off

But that’s just unhinged speculation. I’m entirely ready to be wrong in hopes of a more hopeful future.

Trump already inserted himself into the process when he got his cronies in Congress to kill the border deal.

All Biden did was step up and ask him to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Knowing of course that Trump has no intention of being part of the solution.

This then gives Biden the opportunity to say later, in a debate, or in an ad campaign:

“Hey Jack, we gave you a chance to do the right thing on the border crisis, you rejected it, that’s on you. Get your idiots in congress to stop blocking the progress.”

Biden wants every president to be able to unilaterally shut down the border on a moments notice for indefinite periods of time…

What trump did as a temporary measure that everyone was pissed about and weren’t even sure was legal, Biden wants to codify.

Not abortion rights or anything the Dem voters want codified.

Biden just want to hand something to Republicans they have wanted for decades with zero in return.

Because he’s 81 years old and completely fucking out of touch with not just his voters but reality itself.

        Maybe…

I’ve got this outdated belief that when a president says something, it should be clear and honest.

No matter what happens, for the next five years we’ll have to constantly wonder if what the president said was even what he meant to say. Doesn’t matter who wins, we won’t be able to trust the words coming out of the US presidents mouth. We’ll have to wait a day or so for his aides to tell us what he really meant.

        It’s kinda and of depressing

When Biden said that about the border he was challenging the Republicans to give Biden that win, because he knew they wouldn’t and that Trump is too dumb not to fall for the trap Biden and his team set by saying that, and Biden was right, Trump pulled the strings and the border deal failed.

Right or wrong though, we need to solve the border problem, and that’s definitely not by letting rednecks hunt central and south Americans, like Trump and the GOP, especially the Texas GOP, are advocating for.

Biden knows that the solution lies in legislating for more judges and other staff to help streamline and improve the citizenship process, but the GOP are against that because they buy into the “great replacement theory” and don’t want any more brown people, especially with Trump telling them that he’ll do mass deportations if he’s elected.

But it also goes beyond that, because we have to help solve what keeps people coming here, and that’s because of the political instability and tyranny of their origin countries, I mean brown people aside, look at what’s going on in Haiti today as an example (gangs basically taking over the Haitian capital and kidnapping more political leaders).

You say no matter who wins, but if Trump wins he’s promising to make all of this dramatically worse, his supporters are determined to end democracy, and he and his supporters are promising vengeance on their enemies, and I and many others would definitely be considered their enemies, this is full on Hitler/Stalin shit, and sitting on the fence like you are is basically siding with Trump.

Only an idiot would take what Biden did as lying, the sarcasm was clear in his statement, maybe you’re just foolishly looking for any excuse to not vote for him, maybe you secretly want Trump back.

Trumpets say the shit they say to defend Trump with no knowledge of what the topic actually is, I on the other hand heard what Biden said, how he said it, and watched the political fallout from the statement, including Teump going against his usual stance and demanding the bill be killed because it would make Biden look “good”, but hey fucking thanks for trying to paint me as one of those idiots.

Let’s turn this around on you, maybe you’re just here to sealion the issue, because your insistence that Biden is lying sounds pretty damn Trumpy too, because it just sounds like you’re hearing what you want to hear rather than understanding how the “game” of politics is often played, especially when one of those people involved is a complete buffoon (Trump) that is easily manipulated and led to desired outcomes.

Again you definitely seem like you’re sealioning, i don’t get your point of being so argumentive and insulting.

I’m not Biden I can’t tell you what he was thinking, but I understand sarcasm when I hear it, Biden knew if he got a border deal then he wins, and if Trump killed the border deal Biden still wins, that’s politics, Biden set up a trap and Trump fell into it, and I think we can all agree that something has to be done to address the problems the Republicans themselves have created regarding citizenship and immigration, these are problems that Republicans want to keep going because they both want something to attack the Democrats on, and brown people by proxy, and something that attracts the type of voters Republicans want, the white and Christian Nationalists. Biden was willing to see what they would compromise on, meanwhile Trump doesn’t care about any of it and wanted a win for himself.

So maybe try not to be so naive that you’re understanding of politics is black and white, compromise happens in that gray area that you seem to be deliberately ignoring in favor of unwarranted criticism.

No. Because he knew the Republicans would move the goal posts. They literally DONT want a secure border. If that happens, they lose the one thing they can campaign on this year.

      They have zero policy

They have zero bills they submitted that would help the average American

They have nothing but Hunter Bidens’ massive schlong and scary caravans (oooh so spooky! People escaping death squads and starvation!) designed to frighten the boomers who wish it was 1950 again. They are getting close to that goal, measles is back and soon the dumb fuck anti-vaxers will bring back polio.

But you can negotiate with people who are independent and swing voters. They are watching what is going on and I guarantee you. They are not gonna vote for trump or Republicans

It moves the discussion further to the right and legitimizes Republican talking points for the majority of people who will only hear a brief soundbite about this, rather than diving deep into the matter.

Besides, the GOP isn’t about to run out of bogeymen to trot out just because they could get what they want on the border. They can take it as a compromise and try to push things further down the line. Or they can decide this is good enough for now, and start railing against something else. Union membership rising being a Chinese plot to infiltrate the US and install a Communist dictatorship, so we better write some new laws to enable even more union busting. Free school lunches for kids from poor families turning them gay AND communist by getting them hooked on the government teat early. Woke public libraries turning kids trans by letting them check out books that don’t universally demonize it, so better put some sort of draconian funding limits on them. They’ll find something else, don’t worry.

The way you’re framing it and Congressional Democrats approach these things only work if the Republicans aren’t completely shameless, above doing things that should completely destroy any remaining vestiges for their voters, but this has been disproven time and time again by the actions of the GOP. If they think they’ll have half a chance, they’ll wring out even more concessions on this front from the Democrats by pretending to offer something they immediately renege on, just to leave the Democrats going “Aw, shucks, fooled me again. I thought you said you weren’t going to do this again.”
