5·2 years agoI’m from Morocco. I appreciate most things about this country except for the state.
I like the music, the clothing, the georaphy, the history. I don’t identify with all of these however because I’m from the North of the country and it is slighlty diverse in terms of culture even though it’s almost ethnically homogenous.
I think all people should appreciate their nationality as long as it’s not at the expense of another.

They invaded Algeria with the help of France.
Collaborating with colonizers.
Crushing independence movements.
Invading a socialist country.
Being bourgeois.
I don’t think it would be like a caliphate, the idea is usually to unite the Arab community us included regardless of religion seeing as the Middle East has more religious diversity than North Africa not talking about irreligious people. This idea is rather old however and hasn’t shown a lot of success so it could be time to try new ideas.
What do you think of making a union with the middle east? A lot of thinkers from there seem to like the idea but I feel like sometimes they overlook the Berber/Maghrebi identity.
Northwest Africa should become a single country.

I was born in Morocco. When I was a teenager I had an atheist phase where I believed that all the problems in this country were because of religion and that secular western countries had a duty and an obligation to bring progress to the rest of the world. It turns out that western countries benefit from the moroccan state and that made me look elsewhere. The neighboring country of Algeria which we are told is a failed state is in fact more developed than us and has a socialist past, this is how I discovered communism. Before that I had no opinion on communism, I had only briefly heard of the Soviet Union during history class when it was time for WW2 but there was nothing to remember.
