Yeah, honestly. My PC is 10 years old (with the exception of my GPU) and still runs the games I play perfectly fine for the most part. If I didn’t want to run them smoother at higher graphics settings, or especially if I didn’t play games much at all, I’d have no reason to upgrade my PC. And yet I literally can’t upgrade my current one to Windows 11 because it doesn’t support TPM 2.0.
I think it’ll die down on its own over time. I remember when I first joined Mastodon back in November, it felt like my entire feed was full of people who were migrating from Twitter but were still talking about Twitter this and Elon that, and eventually those people either left or found something else to talk about.
Honestly, Stardew Valley for me. I’ve tried it a couple times and it just didn’t work for me. I wanted to like it, and I like the idea of it, but in practice, I hated the time management aspect and not being able to just run around and do as much as I wanted in a day (I haven’t played on PC with mods; I know there’s at least one or two that let you change that). I also hated the fishing. 🙃
No interest; I won’t be using anything by Meta. If the servers I’m on don’t defederate from them, I’ll just block the domain.

That’s an interesting observation! If you do end up giving it a shot and it doesn’t bother you as much via audio, you definitely won’t be disappointed in the narrator (IMO). 🙂 (Then again, I feel like I’m really picky about audiobook narrators for some reason, haha).
Aah that’s so rough, I’m sorry to hear that! I’m terrified of spiders IRL but fortunately it doesn’t extend much to other media 😅
Is it the Final Architecture trilogy that’s his new one? I’ve got the first book on my to-read list, but haven’t gotten to it yet. It doesn’t look like the audiobook has the same narrator as the Children of Time books, though, which is a bummer!
In turn, it’ll push other manufacturers to up their game and make the best AR/VR headsets they can.
That’s definitely what I’m hoping to see! The competition can only be a good thing.
Definitely not on board with the $3499 price tag, so I won’t be a first-gen adopter, but this is the first AR/VR headset that’s actually made me want one, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the whole landscape looks like in a few years once (hopefully/maybe) prices have come down a bit.
I work from home (since the pandemic), and it’s mostly ok. I don’t miss the commute — from my old house and old job it was a 1h15m commute each way, and from my current house and current job it’s 1h30m. I absolutely could not do that every day, not anymore. So I definitely appreciate that.
Another positive is that my ergonomic setup is way better at home than it would be at the office, which is really important since I’ve been battling ongoing wrist pain.
Also at home no one can hear me swear at my computer all day except my partner in the other room 🙂
On the other hand, I really do miss the social aspect of the office. Which was surprising for me to realize as an introvert when the pandemic hit. But lunch chats, coffee breaks, Friday afternoon beers, even just overhearing people on different teams talking about what they’re up to, etc. are something I miss, and added a little fun to the day even when work itself was a slog.
I go into the office once every couple of weeks now, and it really makes me appreciate seeing people in person. Even just not having the small but ever-present Zoom lag makes such a big difference for me in reading body language, being able to jump in without talking over someone, actually staying somewhat focused, etc. Of course in person meetings are exhausting in their own way, but Zoom meetings can be like a special level of hell to me.
I feel like I wrote a novel, hah. Last thing I’ll say is that an extended break from software development is something that’s sounded quite appealing to me for a little while now, I just have no idea what I’d do instead 😅
Same! I know some people prefer to keep work separate and not make friends there, and people can obviously do what works best for them, etc. But I like work friends! I spend so much of my time there, if the people are cool then why wouldn’t I want to be friends? To me it’s like if I’d gone through my schooling years with the mindset that I was only there for school and not making friends.

I don’t go very often, but I should see more! Usually I see musicals, but the last thing I saw on a stage was actually a Shakespeare play a few years ago. I was visiting London for the first time and saw As You Like It at Shakespeare’s Globe. (That performance was also really cool because the actor who played Celia was Deaf and signed her lines, and the actor who played Rosalind acted as her interpreter).

I usually have a print/ebook and an audio book (for the car) going at the same time.
For print book, currently reading Crooked Kingdom, one of the books in the Grishaverse series/world. I, uh, got a little obsessed after watching the first season of Shadow and Bone a year or two ago.
For audiobook, currently listening to Children of Ruin. Not too far into it yet, but I loved loved loved Children of Time (also listened to the audiobook version), so I’m excited to see where this one goes.
Thanks for reminding me of The World Ends With You! I played it once a number of years ago and remember loving it. I’m probably due for a replay at this point :)
Oh man. I haven’t played Minesweeper in SO long. Putting that on my list to play this weekend. There was a time that it’d just be the default thing I’d open up on my computer if I was just looking to kill a little time.

Edit: how could I forget about ROCK BAND! So much time spent playing that with friends. Even now, once a year or so we get a group of people together, plug in our external hard drives and set up a ton of songs to play, set up all the instruments, and make a whole day of it.
Definitely recommend Dorfromantik! Islanders is another super chill casual game (and also a builder) that I started and fell in love with the other day.
