I think she’ll end up governing like Obama.

Lots of progressive talk and it’ll sound amazing, but not really accomplish enough.

Which I mean, it’s the best we had since Obama… We just have to be loud early that we get a real competitive primary next year. Not some bullshit where no one runs or everyone drops 24hr before Super Tuesday and endorses the party favorite.

Historically for Dems we get the best turnout after competitive primaries. And the worst when voters feel they have no say in it.

We need to look at the primary as an advertisement for the eventual candidate. That’s the whole point, getting out there and selling your plans to the people.

He also kneecapped himself by trying to work with the GOP when they made it clear they were unwilling to negotiate in good faith

Obama tried to pretend to be a progressive while accomplishing as little progression as possible.

Worked really well seeing comments about him. Apparently acting is more important than actions. Don’t forget to thank Obama for not codifying abortion rights…

I remember watching the news closely during his presidency, to hear what he had to say about the Dakota Access Pipeline and ensuing protests, and there was nothing. So, some weeks back I searched to see if there was anything I missed, and I found one instance of a person asking him about it, and he gave only generic responses. Like it was new info to him. Blew me away, because to me it was the most important topic around that time along with what we were doing/going to do in Syria. I don’t have a high opinion of the man, nor the system that makes people like him a figurehead.

Most people including those on Lemmy only care about appearances and acting skills of politicians. They are far too stupid to look at the actual actions of politicians.

Eh, I think it’s impossible to accurately judge a person’s entire intelligence, whether it be by the comments they make online or by their behavior irl. To me, ‘idiot’ is a bad word, worse than most.

That said, it does seem like people are too quick to believe the lies spouted by politicians. I suppose they will continue to believe them until said politicians’ policies affect them in a negative way (e.g. suddenly finding themselves homeless, which is a reality for more and more people these days).
