Have you ever thought about how difficult it would be to make memes if the pride flags didn’t exist?

    Literal sheepdog nonsense ❌

Triggering fascists by stealing their stuff?

    I’m torn.

Gun-fetishizing fascists like to pretend they’re the “sheepdogs” protecting the flock from the ethnically ambiguous wolves. Or transpeople using public restrooms.

It’s a whole thing, got popularized by American Sniper but Eastwood was just repeating some established propaganda.

        https://www.quotes.net/mquote/971176

It’s dangerous and quite frankly patronizing rhetoric that fits right into that whole 3%er/Moron Abe mindset.

        https://loadoutroom.com/thearmsguide/im-not-sheepdog-shouldnt-either/

You’ll note the author of that piece, even when trying to be rational and self effacing, just slobbers all over boots as he does it. I’m not going to hold it against a guy who gets it just enough to recognize something that’s toxic and dangerous when he sees it, but that’s also very typically the kind of guy I see at my range and they most definitely do not get it.

Wayne Kyle: Then you’ve got predators who use violence to prey on the weak. They’re the wolves.

And then there are those blessed with the gift of aggression, an overpowering need to protect the flock. These men are the rare breed who live to confront the wolf. They are the sheepdog.

Huh, how are these two different, Eastwood?

This mixed metaphor aside, sheepdog ARE protectors of the flock by means of deterrence. They don’t attack wolves unless the sheep are in immediate danger. The problem is that fascists think shooting up a mosque, banning abortion, or deporting immigrants is ‘deterrence’.

So, I’m in support of using their metaphor not only for progressives, but for actually using it in the logically correct sense.

Then get a rifle and start practicing instead of imagining yourself as a protector.

We all see how much the dems are doing to stand against trump. And I mean the party not individuals that the party shows very thoroughly they disagree with them when they stand up.

“when you go far enough left, you get your guns back”

The quote that got me to seriously start volunteering with my local Pink Pistols group.

Fuck these fascist if they think they’re the only ones showing up to protests armed (I live in an open carry state, your laws may vary)

Yes, we’re seeing that right now in the US. Armed minorities are rising up against the emerging fascist government.

In fact, this government is showing clear signs of wanting to repeal gay marriage and rights for LGBTQ people, and I’m sure them being armed will prevent all of this.

      Based

In terms of sheer number of firearms, I’m close to the average American gun owner

      Still below average though lol

And don’t forget, knowing how to use your weapons is more important than just having them. Yes an amateur with a weapon is still dangerous, but someome who knows how to use a tool is far more effective than someone who doesn’t know how.

And if you know someone with a few different kinds practice with theirs before you buy your own. The last thing you want to do is get something you can’t handle/use and have it gather dust.

And stick to common calibers, trust me. You want to be able to get ammo basically anywhere without issue.

And if you don’t, some gun ranges have rentals. This can be a good way to shoot a variety of calibers and designs to see what you like.

Its worth noting how little practice you actually need to be dangerous to the correct person.

Good point, I’m used to living in an area with a really high percentage of people who are gun owners (like higher than the national average) so I didn’t even think of that.

An additional bonus point: if you don’t feel comfortable personally owning firearms or having them in your home, having a larger group of friends can help. The more people you know the more likely you are to know a gun owner or someone who’s comfortable owning firearms.

portraying trans people as weak sheep isn’t exactly accurate, but I think the saying “don’t let perfect be the enemy of good” applies here lol

I feel the same way and yeah it’s really easy to criticize it while I’m supposed to be working lol

I may fire up some pride themed art this weekend (hopefully), probably going to be pretty rough looking but everyone’s gotta start somewhere on their journey learning a new skill
