So, in countries where the governments give a shit about their people and not protecting assets and property, Landlords are not what they are here. They have a house, and generally they either are heavily regulated to provide condensed housing or are dealing with properties that were willed to them by family. You don’t often (not to say they don’t exist) get people buying too many houses to rent out (partially because of the aforementioned regulation).
In these countries, you can’t evict people. SHOCKING! “But how do I get a new tenant to pay rent?” The shitty landlord asks with grease from their bespoke 80 dollar tofu and gold burrito sloshing from their mouth. YOU DON’T! In fact, you go to the government and say “Hey, so this dude living in my house right? He can’t pay rent. Now I don’t want him gone, because he needs a place to live, but I need to upkeep that property… what do I do?” And they send the Landlord help and offer assistant to the tenant as well proactively to make sure everyone involved is OK.
What those countries don’t have? A shit ton of billionaires more worried about rubbing one out in space than they are about people fucking dying on Earth.
And these are the people most likely to tell homeless people to “just get a job.”
Is being a landlord even considered a job?
Is this person suggesting that the landlord work enough to make up for the amount that it costs to house and provide for their tenants?
They phrased it in patronizing terms which is sure to get some upvotes or likes or whatever but when you think about it for more than a few seconds it doesn’t make any sense.
