On Tuesday, Florida state Rep. Ryan Chamberlin introduced HB 599, a bill that would ban government employees from being required to use the preferred pronouns of their colleagues, prohibits the penalization of employees on the “basis of deeply held religious or biology-based beliefs,” and makes it unlawful for nonprofits or employers receiving state funds to require employees to undergo training on matters of sexual/gender identity or gender expression.

So I can go to work for the Florida government and call Ron DeSantis a she and if anyone complains, I can say it’s because of my deeply held religious belief that he’s a woman?

Really they mean only THEIR personally held religious beliefs of white christian nationalism are valid and we all know Jesus hates trans people. It’s in the Bible, or something, right after he tells the poor to fuck off with his AR-15.

Fun fact: right now, you can call up Miss deSantis and call them a punk little bitch and he just has to accept it. Let her know it’s called free speech, and if they have a problem with it, then maybe don’t be such a pussy.

Always remember: When something starts out as “to protect the children” (as dubious as that claim often is), it’s always to get the foot of fascism in the door.

You can already just be a dick and use the wrong gender for everyone. If you want to be a hateful bigot and use the bible as protection for your hateful views, you can. You can just be the awful right wing person you are, but people will not like you.

Stop voting for Republicans, all they have is hate turned into laws nobody wants.

Well the Covid numbers weren’t oversimplified for 14 year olds biology so it doesn’t count. Same reason they’ll fire any government employees who follow AMA/APA/WPATH guidelines for trans people.

Every place I ever worked asked me what I wanted to be called. And calling people by the name they prefer is just a sign of teamwork and the ability to work together. (A valuable work skill) Who would want to call people by pronouns or names they don’t prefer?

So as someone who deeply believes in the validity of trans people both on a religious and biological basis would I be exempted from being forced to misgender colleagues?

It is my deeply held biology-based belief that every Republican politician is in fact a giant cockroach from another planet wearing a human skin suit like Vincent D’Onofrio in Men in Black.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The law originally prohibited classroom instruction on issues of gender identity and sexual orientation in pre-K through the third grade.

In barring tax-exempt groups from conducting “any training, instruction, or other activity on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression,” the bill could have negative repercussions on nonprofits, medical clinics, and advocacy organizations that work with members of the LGBTQ community.

“Just like the original ‘Don’t Say Gay’ they make vague terms with large penalties to chill speech.

This latest attack is a continuation of DeSantis’s censorship agenda which attempts to erode our basic democratic freedoms in order to appeal to a far-right base,” Smith added.

Harding, who sponsored the state’s original “Don’t Say Gay” bill, resigned from office in 2022 after being indicted on charges related to Covid business relief fraud and money laundering.

Chamberlin, who replaced Harding via a special election held earlier this year, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Rolling Stone.
