My main midwest.social stream is current full of ads for guns and gun parts. Did I do something wrong?

It’s my attempt to take the advice and “create what was missing”.

I’ve been discussing this with another user who highlighted the current level of activity combined with those posts renders the default “local” sort relatively useless, so I’ve already opted to back off until activity in general has picked up to the point it wouldn’t be a wall of noise.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

It looks like someone posted a bunch of posts (all at once) to the !gundeals community. Its not ads, just an individual posting a bit too much.

The point of the community is to post items available at a discount. Should be more about actual deals than spam. The mods should probably have a rule about self promotion (more clearly an ad) and something about volume of posts to a particular website.

It’s a nice idea in theory but just results in FOMO and buying stuff you wouldn’t otherswise. Subscribing will likely not save anyone any money. Can be a nice resource to look at if you’re going to buy something anyway.

          And it is.

Unfortunately, the nature of cross posting the actual deals (until we have our own actual activity) lends itself to catching up in batches, which… doesn’t play well with the default “all” sort.

The mods should probably have a rule about self promotion (more clearly an ad) and something about volume of posts to a particular website.

I’d already planned to put together similar; I’d wanted to see how the concept would work at all first, along with any potential issues. Seems like we’ve uncovered a potential issue.

It’s a nice idea in theory but just results in FOMO and buying stuff you wouldn’t otherswise.

Depends entirely on whether or not you’ve already budgeted for X and are just waiting for the right price.

Just click into the gun advertisements community, and hit block

might want to change your default sort order in your settings to “Subscribed” too

Looks like the bug where the auto refresh will spam out the latests posts from a single community after sitting on the page for a few minutes with the sort being hot, or active or sometimes one day.

It wasn’t a bug - it was the natural result of my batching of posting the curated set from the past few hours. It just happened to look a lot like those batched updates from auto refresh.

Assuming it’s not actual spam, occasionally my feed gets screwed up and I get tons of results from only one community. If you refresh it should fix it

Refreshing didn’t fix it, but blocking the community did.
