I’m reminded of a Chapo segment where they said that if you have strong political beliefs you publicly express, you should be prepared and willing to take shit for those beliefs. Conservatives would not last a day if they had to put up with the constant, near-universal vitriol that communists living in the West get.
I’d probably want to blow my brains out too hearing Janeway fellate Harris to be fair
Same but its a moment
gotta admire the actress for staying in character
captain-butcher janeway destroyer of worlds would support the kamala empire
trump would never have the courage to kill tuvix
JD Vance has probably already had steamy lizard sex with Nick Locarno, though.
“Odo, I have a favor to ask”
If he had it’d be the coolest thing he’d ever done.
Janeway was Hilary Clinton in space. She out be mad
7 of 9 doesn’t hate them, Jeri Ryan hates them.
“media literacy” is an ocean off the coast of Medialitera
To be fair 7 of 9 would probably also hate them were she real lmao
Early 7 of 9 wouldn’t even think Trump is fit for assimilation. The later, more emotionally nuanced 7 of 9 would probably have roughly the same opinion of Trump as anyone else in the 2400s, that he was a murderous warlord relic of the past before humanity achieved space utopia
he was a little incoherent because he also liked cops and was a misogynist, but I guess no one’s perfect. Still made a cool show
If I didn’t want people to hate me I would simply not subscribe to a loathsome political ideology
Assigned Republican At Birth
It’s just my opinion!
Why can’t people just fucking nerd out about stupid fun sci-fi shit.
Because you’re not a real nerd. You’re a normie who doesn’t belong, go back to watching football or golf or something.
Always gatekeep your hobbies. Take it from an anime fan, they invade our communities and act like the standing authorities on it.
what would a chud even like about Star Trek? It’s explicitly a show about a utopian socialist society that’s defeated war, hunger, racism, and sexism.
Like I can still enjoy some reactionary media, like Attack on Titan is written by a chud, but I can still recognize that it’s reactionary. The original Ghost in the Shell manga is the same way. I’m with you on anime, I’ve been into it for decades and it’s full of conservative dorks who fail at basic media literacy who get surprised when there are actually political themes that translate to real world positions
what would a chud even like about Star Trek?
Probably some brain-dead “humanity fuck yea” bullshit. I’ll bet they don’t even think about the whole FALGSC aspect, just the cool humans running around space getting one over on the aliens. Basically what 0 media literacy does to a motherfucker
i mean to be fair Star Trek is a product of an imperial, western nation so there are some lingering attitudes like you mentioned that pop up occasionally. It depends on the writer though. Often the humans do have a very colonial, imperialist attitude towards other species. Sometimes Starfleet is purely a research/diplomacy organization, sometimes it operates more like a military. It’s a show that’s been around for a while so it’s inconsistent, but the core of the show has been there from even before Day 1. It’s showing a future where humans are better than they are now, not because of the space tech stuff, but because we’ve fixed our society and how people are treated.
Oh yeah, I know those guys, those are the average r/Stellaris posters
Yeah look at Warhammer 40k lmao, thousands of dumbass chuds who don’t play the game (and barely engage with the surrounding entertainment) always chime in to speak their piece on fiction they only know thru memes. I stopped playing years ago, but I have a few friends who share their grievances with me. It sounds aggravating
“They wanted to turn their brains off, and go nerd out […] and have some fun.”
“why can’t people just fucking nerd out about stupid fun sci-fi shit?”
“and have a stupid nerdy time.”
Beyond anything political, I think they’d be an incredibly annoying person to be around. What does nerd out even mean??? Are they attempting to turn to jello as if they’re taking recreational sedatives? What positive experiences do they have in their lives that makes them feel like they turn their brain off and, in response, receive a good time from others? Do I socialize wrong?
What does nerd out even mean???
they want to go to an event where they can soyface while watching fictional characters delivering epic Marvel-style one liners
at some point they had an intellect, and they developed specialized interests in stuff as many folks do, but our schools train us wrong on purpose, as a joke, unless you go all the way to graduate level education, about how to use that brain so they’re mad their conceptual stim toy is made by people who hate their broken brained politics and rather than give an inch to the implication of “The people who made this thing I love hate me”, and do some soul searching, they’re doubling down and calling it a theft to cope with the loss rather than change to keep what they love.
but our schools train us wrong on purpose, as a joke
“My brain has worms, making me the victor!”
“Jump that wall, if you’re so great!”
That or just finding a new hobby. Like WH40k is right there for their reactionary politics lol
Not a Warhammer guy, but I’m pretty sure the creators do everything they can to distance themselves from chuds and the setting is meant to be dystopian to a tongue in cheek level, people intentionally making the most grimdark brutal setting they could cause also it’s a war game so a setting where everyone sucks and fights all the time is appropriate and chud nerds didn’t really grasp they were being silly. It’d got genocidal trad catholic space marines, from my understanding they are trying really hard to not be taken seriously and fell into the gravity well Deeply Unserious People who took it seriously cause it matched their sincere outlook.
Nah, GW does the absolute bare minimum so that normal people don’t get weirded out and stop giving them money. Eg they put out a statement saying “hate is not welcome in our community” but then published a short story on their community page where immigrants are all evil and a “good cop” dies because he didn’t murder a child on sight. 40k hasn’t meaningfully been satirical since the 90s, and has gotten even worse since 8th ed, where space marines started being treated as good guys entirely unironically. It’s easy to compare conflicts in old lore to new lore and see the difference. For example:
Old Lore:
- The Badab War. A space marine chapter (which had couped the civilian government of their homeworld 200 years earlier) refuses to pay their tithes after their requests for more materiel to carry out their charge of defending a region of space centered on an open portal to hell are denied. This went more or less unnoticed for 150 years due to the Imperium’s colossal bureaucracy. Finally, a contingent of ships from a variety of imperial factions related to the middle-men in the local sector government that were in charge of collecting the tithe come to see what’s going on, allegedly refuse to follow instructions, and are fired upon and destroyed by the space marines for suspicion of being forces of chaos and/or pirates. The space marines convince the other two chapters who share their charge of defending the entrance of the hell portal to join them in seceding from the local sector government to form their own separate space marine-led government, which is their right as space marines and not unprecedented. A fleet-based chapter of particularly assholeish space marines that happened to be nearby by chance are brought into the situation by that sector government to aid them and end up getting into a big space battle with the rogue chapters and lose. From here, the war escalates until a half-dozen more space marine chapters and the inquisition get involved on the side of the sector government, and it ends in terrible losses for both sides, one of the rogue space marine chapters turning to chaos, and the other two being brought back into the fold but sent out on punitive crusades with the assumption that they will not survive. The imperium’s structure and the fascist nature of space marines in particular leads to its own downfall.
New Lore:
- The Arks of Omen. Some demon decides he’s going to assemble a macguffin to become stronk and convinces other chaos forces to help him do so. Several loyalist space marine chapters fight back. The demon succeeds and brings back the ancient homeworld of one of the chapters of space marines which had been destroyed 10,000 years ago, but now it’s a spooky demon planet! All seems lost but then reinforcements show up with the primarch of the loyalists (who suddenly just showed up out of nowhere) and helps them beat back the demons. It’s a pyrrhic victory and the demon will still be able to carry out his plans some time in the future (in the next campaign book). The imperium (well, just a bunch of space marines really, who cares about the other factions) is heroic and is standing against the demons that want to kill everything.
It could be pointed out that the second type of “imperium vs external threat” story is not exactly a new invention, but as far as I’m aware every single campaign since the release of 8th has had the imperium as the good guys against the big bad chaos/aliens.
Well that’s a bummer. Most of my knowledge of Warhammer comes from Bolt Thrower
The metal band from I want to say the '80s? Congrats on finding probably the least problematic way to engage with the IP lol.
They started in the 80s but only broke up in the late 2010s
means they want to CONSOOOOOOOOM
they want media to conform, cater, and reinforce their already existing beliefs or to not challenge them in the slightest. Or they want to remember how they felt as children, where the more adult political themes sailed right over their heads. They want to be kids playing with toys.
It means doing these when you see hot lady appear from the show you watch.
if I did not want to feel hated I would simply not hold hateful opinions
A monumental task for these ‘people’
but how else can they justify their privileged social position to themselves if the untermensch don’t deserve it
Yeah Janeway would vote for Kamala.
Janeway kills Tuvix and votes for Kamala in a single afternoon while sipping a cup of coffee.
We hear you, we see you, now get in the transporter bay.
Not directly related, but I hate how chuds go “why can’t we just be friends in THIS space? It’s just politics!” because its 1: A bold-faced lie. They freak out about me doing gay shit or not expressing my gender, so they can’t figure out how to be friends and 2: No we can’t be friends in THIS space, because they want me to not exist in ANY space. Politics isn’t just politics, it’s life and it’s also how you view the world. I’m not gonna be friends or friendly with some dickhead who wants me to disappear.
A local scene had to deal with those types some years ago. It was a place called “the youth house” which was supposed to be a house for youth. Of course some whiny libertarian freaks showed up, got shoved out and then cried about it, which was of course picked up by national media. “Well if THEY can’t be there, then it’s not a place for all youth!” fuck off. They got manhandled out because they couldn’t behave, they acted as if they were in a zoo and got flabbergasted when the “animals” didn’t go along with their shitty behaviour.
If they’re there others can’t be there, that’s how it is, that’s how things work. I’ve been to libertarian bars and it was a shitty experience because people like me weren’t welcome. They said everyone was welcome, but that’s never true because it’s not possible to make everyone feel welcome and you gotta make a decision on who you want to cater to. In the case of the “youth house” it was trans youth, in the case of the libertarian bar it was some conservative asshole who called me a removed (I feel the need to stress this, I was on my best behaviour and I had done nothing to antagonise anyone. I was kind and polite until some guy went up to me and said “what’s up removed?” And I STILL calmly asked him not to call me that, to which he decided to continue because “it’s a free country”. Somehow it wasn’t so free when I decided to reciprocate his language.). No media attention for me though, no big show about how poor old widdle enbie me wasn’t allowed at the “everyone is welcome” bar, weird that.
These sacks of shit get the world served to them on a silver platter and still cry foul when you ask them to stop stealing falafel off your plate.
Also lastly, they don’t mind politics in art. All art is political, they just don’t want it to be challenging to them. “Die hard isn’t political!” No it just agrees with you/doesn’t challenge your worldview.
It’s the same with libs that say they’re against “political violence” while arguing for the police.Ps. Chuds are whiny babies, if they experienced even 1/10th of the pushback that communists get, then they’d end themselves.
But where are those poor libertarians supposed to go if not the Youth House? They sure as hell won’t go for the Of Legal Age House
Being a libertarian should exclude you from any spaces with minors, no matter your age
To them, your existence is political but only their opinions are political.
Wow a show about FALGSC is hostile to fascism?!?!?!
particularly modern trek
Every time
modern star trek sucks absolute ass though but not for the reasons this guy hates it
old trek was actually more political, in that it showed different ideologies crashing into each other, “geopolitical” maneuvering between empires, explored ideas like colonialism, etc.
new trek is literally just shiny laser go brrr
Yea i’m just saying new trek sucks
and I’m saying this chud and his friends are exactly the intended audience of nu-trek. It’s dumbed down and turned into laser shows for consooooomers who want to “turn off their brains and nerd out” and “hate politics”. It’s funny they complain about nu-trek when it’s literally them who caused this
But the main character of Discovery has very political skin and gender. And the homosexuals!
“geopolitical” maneuvering between empires
I propose the term “astropolitics”
Only the live-action modern Trek. Lower Decks easily competes with DS9 and TNG for quality. Different tone certainly. But it’s its own distinct thing. TNG was renowned for its ethics and morality plays. DS9 was about the challenges of being on the frontier. I think LD’s distinctive feature will end up being a faith that we can be better than we are, despite what we’ve done and what we’ve seen.
Wait, animated ✅ Star Trek ✅whose quality rivals my two favorite iterations of Star Trek✅? Give it. I need it right now
Oh my goodness, I envy you if you’ve never seen Lower Decks, because I’d love to see it again for the first time.
I dunno how it escaped me up until now…I’m gonna look into it to get excited. my wife has the tv rn or i world already have found it on the ol Grand line.
It’s possibly the best Trek series out of the recent releases, Prodigy while being made for kids is also a lot of fun and was picked up for a second season that just came out on Netflix.
Moopsy!
Lower Decks is my favorite Star Trek series and Beckett Mariner is my favorite Starfleet officer
I like strange new worlds
it’s pretty ok actually, it’s about on the same level to me as TOS. I actually like how they do stuff like imitate Desilu studio close-ups and lighting arrangements. Makes it feel like what if TOS were a modern show
I grew up on TOS (reruns, I’m not ancient) and I also get very similar vibes from Strange New Worlds. I don’t even care if it’s not particularly edgy or insightful. It’s like comfort food and I’m eating it up.
It’s okay but i stopped watching in the first season. My main impressions were “well at least it feels like star trek again” but most of the stories were kinda meh and one of the better ones they just ripped from The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas (but iirc libbed up because did they even do anything? Did they just leave that kid in the torment nexus because uhh noninterventionism? I don’t remember but thought it was weak shit)
and i cannot stress enough how much I do not ever need to see another “it’s a submarine battle… in SPACE!!” episode of Star Trek, christ, it’s the episode that never ends
You’re doing yourself a disservice, what Trek series has a great first season?
Did they just leave that kid in the torment nexus because uhh noninterventionism?
I love how Captain Freeman in Lower Decks (I think S2E1) talks about how she’s annoyed by Starfleet’s “policy of some intervention”. Humanizes her while also calling out some prior Trek writers’ occasional inadvertant-cruelty moments.
Sure but this guy is also too stupid to recognize that old trek hated him just as much as new trek
There are more good modern trek shows than bad ones
Good:
-
Lower Decks
-
Strange New Worlds
-
Prodigy
-
The Orville
Bad:
-
Discovery
-
Picard
-
Dya think he knows about MLK writing Nichelle Nichols? Perhaps? Would it matter if he did or…
They’ve been taught MLK was a conservative, it wouldn’t matter
These people don’t want to nerd out. They want to do heroin
There is a dad that wears Trump gear at the legit “baby/toddler only” playground i go to everyday, and I always imagine him complaining like this.
He wears the gear every day? Like sometimes I’m in my satanic shirts at the toddler park but that’s just because I don’t think about what i wear
Not just everyday, but every piece of gear is different. maybe a half dozen hats and a new trump shirt every time.
guessing this person is desperately lonely for friends and thinks other people will come up to him and strike up a conversation about how they’re too scared to wear their gear
Or he maxed his card buying Trump gear and is modeling his wares going to pay his rent.
Which sounds impossible but there was a guy who did something close to this who desperately wanted to sell his overstock in the parking lot where i work
So brutal. To be a walking billboard at the toddler park

Bit idea: make an account for /r/conservative and post nothing but complaints about how literally every celebrity hates “us” until every poster there feels like this guy’s friends
