It is amazing how Israel buckles under any amount of pressure after over a year of being told that Israel could continue on their own and the president couldn’t do anything to change it.

Very informative to know that hundreds of thousands are dead because the democrats simply refused to do anything to stop it other than briefing the press about how sad they are about it.

Ofc they buckle under pressure, they send tanks ahead of infantry and airstrike civilians who can’t fight back. Their entire modus operandi is “pls don’t hurt me I am a smol bean” but also “mega badass who can do anything” but also “don’t criticize us we’re the most moral army” but also “eat shit and die, we’re going to build a hotel on the beach over your childrens’ corpses” but also “campus protestors on the other side of the planet are doing psychic damage to our troops >:” but also “our troops are so competent they reach the rank of 5 star general by the age of 28 and also invented the cherry tomato”

I believe the kids call it “being tsundere”

Traditional fascist “our enemies are laughably weak” and “our enemies are so strong we have to brutalise everyone around us”, and being unable to tell true believers (who actually believe their spoken words) and cynics (who are just signalling loyalty to one another) means that they wind up just being pretty unable to assess the world around them.

It’s fucking wild that Trump has done more to stop the war on Gaza with this one move than anything Biden did in his whole term.

Trump has outflanked the entire American establishment to the left on foreign policy despite threatening to invade every country within a thousand miles of a US military base.

Fucking astounding shit is going on, entirely fuelled by one man’s ego and the many sycophants working diligently to inflate it.

threatening to invade every country within a thousand miles of a US military base

genuine question, are there any countries that are not within 1000 miles of a US military base?

I doubt that Israel agreed because Trump asked. Israel agreed because TRUMP asked. Because Nethanyahu doesn’t want to bother with consequences, he is more than happy to give the impression that another dictator is actually better than the democratic guy.

It’s about framing of people and political mindsets, not about resolving the conflict. The ethical baseline in this conflict, it’s about withdrawal to international borders, rebuilding of the region and the creating an envir worthy of living for those who where born there and where radicalized through suffering.

The same will happen with Putin in my opinion. He will agree to a ceasefire and “negotiate piece” with unacceptable conditions (borders, no return of kidnapped children, no reparations).

This isn’t a strategic play that neither Putin nor Nethanyahu nor Trump can do because they is powerfull, but because the other side is weak or doesn’t even exist anymore.

I think Trump has made it clear in some way that the US isn’t interested in endlessly funding wars abroad (at least to the tune that Netanyahu would want). But otherwise I’m sure he’s otherwise happy for Israel to do whatever else it wants to do in the west bank

Or Biden could have, even a single time, refrained from handing them billions of dollars of bombs and missiles.

But he didn’t, because he didn’t want to, because Biden is a rabid hardcore Zionist who wants the Palestinian people exterminated just as much as Netanyahu, and was hiding behind the pathetic excuse of “Oh, he’s just so mean and won’t listen to me! There’s nothing I can do! Oops, I just gave him another $8 billion!”

And now Trump has demonstrated that was all a lie, and that the instant its master demands it, the attack dog is called to heel.

everybody needs to gird their loins for the time when the Democrats are running again. They will claim this as their victory. They will pretend it just took two years of hard nosed negotiating with Israel to make this thing happen despite it literally just taking an incoming administration telling Israel to wrap this shit sandwich up before the 20th.

In my high school government class our learning about the lawmaking process I think was just that song and then a dead simple quiz on it. But now that I think about it, I did have mono at the time, so I missed a lot of classes. But no, our education in politics was very underwhelming. And just pretend Marx and friends didn’t exist because we sure didn’t learn about them despite the strong opinions we had about their theories.

Bibi’s adherence to the Sabbath is about as spiritually sincere as my adherence to Sunday being the day of rest which is conveniently legally mandated as a day off.

First observation: this is unironically the most wildly antisemitic anecdote of the last few presidents AFAIK

I’m a Jew (at least I was raised jewish, had a bneimitzvah, yadyada, who the fuck knows about my spirituality/lackthereof now) and it’s not immediately clear to me why it’s antisemitic to force a head of state break sabbath. It’s been more than a decade since I read a translation, but does the Torah not explicitly permit breaking the sabbath in times of emergency or is that a talmudic or more modern opinion?

Am I missing a blind spot (in my own perspective) here?

It’s a lot more disrespectful to Muslims to let this genocide go on unabated for one afternoon more. Smol bean Bibi doesn’t get to use his religion to justify letting the IOF continue doing genocide on the Sabbath, which surely continues firing missiles by computer automation without making any Israeli Jew denigrate themselves by personally pressing a button on the Sabbath.

You can’t convince me that an Israeli settler wouldn’t lift a finger to save their own house from burning down on the Sabbath.

100% true, like how you can eat non kosher/halal if you are starving and there are no there options available

A lot of people don’t know the actual tenets of the religions they claim, just the (often not entirely correct parts) they gain through cultural osmosis, not that there’s anything wrong with non-orthodoxy it’s just you should probably read the book if your going to claim something as part of you identity

Moreover for Jewish Israelis is that many of them are just secular but call themselves Jewish as an ethnic group.

Like if I called myself a Christian for simply observing a few cultural traditions of my predominantly Christian community despite being totally secular in my spiritual practice.

It has a dual benefit. Any violence against Israelis is inherently antisemitic, but without the caveat that you have to teach your children that Judaism forbids the creation of an ethnostate in the holy land only habitable by Jewish people.

  • Witkoff’s blunt reaction took them by surprise. He explained to them in salty English that the Shabbat was of no interest to him. His message was loud and clear.
